@selva.projects presents CONSTANT/CHANGE #00 An Instructed View First of 5 instruction work themed exhibitions, #00 as part of @kashual.plastik ’s happening series “KASHUAL HAPPENING“ Opening: May 21 - 7PM Concerts / Performances: May 21 - 8PM curated @kashual.plastik Closing: May 26 - 6PM Readings, Performances, Booktables (TBA) “Essentially, the kind of instructions we encounter daily are intended to help us assemble something with which we are not yet intimately familiar. Such are typically phrased or illustrated with simplicity and clarity, ensuring that the vast majority of consumers can navigate them… The fusion of mental or physical activity with an artistic concept became the central focus of the series and exhibition cycle proposed here under the title >Constant / Change<. This presentation marks the first in a series of five flux-inspired shows dedicated to exploring the theme of instruction works. Instruction-based art often utilizes written specifications such as musical scores, manuals, orders or recipes - rather than a finished piece - and invites viewers to imagine, interpret or execute, thereby transforming the art-making process into a collaboration... Some of the selected instructions remain purely a play of the viewer’s own imagination - print-outs, copies, notes; others are further elaborated upon through drawings, some have been realized using found and borrowed materials… The exhibition will inevitably continue to evolve during both the preparation phase and the exhibition period.“ With instruction works by Dara Birnbaum, SeeVa Dawne, Gerard Herman, Takehisa Kosugi, Albert Mayr, Sol LeWitt, Christian Philipp Müller, Stuart Sherman, Eliza Walton, Franz Wrakhowitch (…) Curated / Poster / Text by Robert Pawliczek @r_pawliczek Special thanks to Jon @fenrickbooks , Nat @abcdefghijklpqrstuvwxyz & all former, present and future participants… - @selva_nyc 1329 Willoughby Avenue Brooklyn-NY

Selva is pleased to present Between Thorns, the first solo exhibition of New York–based artist Somer Stampley. For over a decade, Stampley’s practice has centered on collage and animation, primarily using cut-out paper to construct intricate, otherworldly scenes. Her work conjures alien landscapes populated by feminine entities and whimsical flora and fauna, rendered through a distinctly flat and vibrant color language. Her films and collages have been exhibited internationally and commissioned by a range of musicians, from New York–based acts Hankwood and the Hammerheads to country icon Willie Nelson. In Between Thorns, Stampley translates this visual vocabulary into painting. The works on canvas echo the compositional logic of her cut-paper constructions while introducing new material depth and spatial tension. Across both mediums, Stampley builds narratives that unfold in expansive, imagined worlds while remaining attentive to the intimacy of natural detail Opening on Friday May 8th with music by DJ Boiled Angel ( @bo1led.angel ) Up until May 19th Curated by Lucas Cabu ( @lucascabu )

O Começo do Fim do Mundo Vitão: a punk with a camera. Not a professional photographer, this is the only known body of photographic work he ever produced. His images capture spontaneous moments of his friends, on stage and in the crowd, experiencing what may have been the most intense day of their lives. One of his photographs became the back cover of the LP. Vitão was an original Punk da Morte from Casa Verde, and was assassinated with a bullet in the back of his head by local thieves he had confronted before. These photographs survived through the care of Ariel (Restos de Nada/Inocentes) and Tina. *Some images may have been taken by one of his friends.

O Começo do Fim do Mundo One of the walls at Selva will be covered with large prints by Penna Prearo. Penna is one of Brazil’s most important photographers, known for his work in art photography and music portraiture having created album covers for big artists such as Tim Maia, Elis Regina, and Hareton Salvanini. Here we present some never seen photos taken at the festival O Começo do Fim do Mundo.

This coming Saturday May 2nd, from 2-8pm we are pleased to present “O Começo do Fim do Mundo” a pop-up exhibition with photos videos and memorabilia. “O Começo do Fim do Mundo” was a punk festival that happened in São Paulo - Brazil in 1982 with bands like Olho Seco, Colera, Inocentes, Ratos de Porão, etc In November 1982, during the final years of Brazil’s military dictatorship, punk reached a wider public in São Paulo with O Começo do Fim do Mundo. The festival took place at Sesc Pompéia, an old factory transformed into a brutalist cultural oasis by architect Lina Bo Bardi, and marked a key moment for the city’s punk scene, bringing together thousands of punks and onlookers. Organized through a DIY effort with unexpected structure, the event united bands from across São Paulo and the ABC region, groups often linked to rival gangs, on the same stage. This true collective effort was spearheaded by Bivar, Meire, and Callegari, with the invaluable help of many punks. There were 21 shows. Many bands didn’t have their own instruments, Clemente’s bass (Inocentes) was shared by more than ten groups. The atmosphere held until Sunday, when police responded to neighborhood complaints and arrested dozens of youths for “looking punk.” Despite the repression, the energy of that weekend was documented on a live album. Recorded on a home cassette deck, it captures the anger that no studio could replicate. The original pressing served as payment for the bands. Today, it has become a sought-after collector’s item. Now, the original fragments of this cultural collision arrive in New York for this exhibition. The space brings together historical memorabilia alongside the work of three distinct photographers: Vitão, a punk who captured his friends on stage and in the pit having the best days of their lives, Penna Prearo, one of the greatest portraitists of Brazilian music and the American Paul Constantinides, who documented the raw magic of that weekend. It offers a true visual immersion into the point of eruption of the South American underground. Show will be up only until Monday, May 4th Curated by Mateus Mondini @mmondini
