Announcement for tomorrow's slideshow talk "Poses and Tropes: queer-trans design histories and methods*" by @roseneveleigh .
I love this 1994 screenprint by queer Australian artist and printmaker Janet Burchill titled "I am I because my little cat knows me." (Original is on slide 2, pic taken from @keeperprintroom ). The print remixes a quote by Gertrude Stein: “I am I because my little dog knows me but, creatively speaking, the little dog knowing that you are you and your recognising that he knows, that is what destroys creation. That is what makes school.” So Burchill chooses to write cat instead of dog, and she chooses to feature an (inverted) portrait of Stein nine times.
I reprinted Burchill’s print as the basis for the announcement for Rosen. Maybe all an elaborate excuse to try out the new white risograph drum in the studio.
💭 Re-re-re-appropriation, inverting, mirroring the ones you love [and how that can hurt / is beautiful / is on repeat], nine lives is better than one ♾️ 🔁
Talk is tomorrow, 14 May 1330 in C305 at EKA 🐱
Loom Literary Journal (AU) will be tabling at the @fairenough_bookfair (EE) on 23 & 24 of May ❤️ 🇪🇪
Will have some limited copies of Issue 1 (Quaver) that I managed to fit in my suitcase. Also for sale, this new poster, a 3 colour riso poster print ft. phone pic of diary.
Thanks for reading, supporting & submitting to Loom. Issue 2 (Cut) coming in June.
Quick publishing (1 A4 a day)
Thanks to guest writers @lindamorel_@alinali and @jordyweaver ❤️
1) Black laser print on dismantled luxury home interiors magazine cut into A4s. Text Alina wrote after a snowstorm in Switzerland.
2) Foiled text on grey cotton paper. Typeset in "Bimbo Times" (times new roman with love hearts instead of dots) by @1.auflage as commissioned by @evaclaycomb . Text I wrote about dance class and summer.
3) Black laser print on dismantled shopping bags cut into A4s. Text Linda wrote while observing people pass through the train station.
4) Black laser print on a gold A4. Text Jordy wrote about reserved signs.
5) Y:100 laser print (same page reprinted seven times) on a dark green A4. Text I wrote years ago about living on Canberra Street.
#envelopeEra which was late Feb / early March as a result of dealing with two misorderings of envelopes (Ethan and I were meant to get the uncoated ones for our own project and we ordered the coated ones twice on accident). These experiments kind of amounted to nothing but madness but also helped me figure out another project which is underway with Jordy...
Thanks @gaida__ep for hosting the life drawing session 🎨
New website for beloved @bodyconcert 🦢 Some words written by Kasia (the owner of the studio) ⬇️
"Body Concert opened two and a half years ago as an understated Pilates-focused movement space that prioritises inner experiences of connection over predictable, performative concepts of fitness.
no neon
no obvious signage
(not even the word “Pilates” lol)
just a warm and sensitively considered studio space
somewhat hidden
with an online presence that said very little
maybe too little
did you ever wonder
who we are
or what happens here?
For someone naturally shy and introverted, stepping into a visible, front-facing role in a loud and saturated industry doesn’t come easily. Over time, it became obvious that when you run a small business, you have to be out there in the landscape… which is actually more easeful when you have such a gifted team of teachers and an incredibly rich community of focused and engaged students.
What we’re developing together as a studio community is so positive - it should be seen, better understood and shared, so that more people can join us and benefit from what we offer…
So we created something new!
When you have a moment, visit us at . If you or your people are Body Concert–curious, our website is now the perfect place to begin. And if you’re already part of our community, you’ll find an online space that echoes the energy of your studio experience while offering some new perspectives."
James and I begun the design process with these charcoal drawings while we caught up in his studio over the summer. It felt important to create a site which would be savvy & highly functional for growing BC, but also illustrate the atmosphere of the place – how peaceful and fun it is to take a class there, in particular Kasia's visualisations of how to move your body, and the community which I miss!
Thanks Kasia ❤️

"For crunch to released, Compression must be added" was written by students of the @eka_maca program during a creative writing workshop with @lievenlahaye in february.
@natalia___moro and I were invited to design the texts and produce a small publication. The maca students built this really cool moving structure to cart the books around in. ❤️
160 copies were printed and handed out for free. The texts all responded to the prompt of divination/spells/instructions... so we thought it would be cute to make a little notebook to carry in your breast pocket & keep close. Covers printed on discarded stock from the printer. Books were launched in the pedestrian tunnel under balti jaam train station in march.
Thx @eka_maca and thnx incredible collaborator Natália 🪄
In the first week of @ekagd_ma our teachers booked us an intro to silk-screen printing. @gourvei and I partnered up to share a screen but ended up working together. We gathered kiss marks from each of our new classmates, made a quick typographic design "ma armastand sind" (i love you in Estonian) and exposed a screen with the pattern on it. We tested on a range of papers and textile scraps, and Chloé even bought ten silk ties from the second hand shop to gift to our class. The next night we wore them to karaoke. Feels like a million years ago but it was only September last year. Had been meaning to post these scans, I love them.
Bisous Chloé 💋
A short text on a long skinny pink or yellow piece of paper written for the @fairenough_bookfair book bar fundraiser a couple months ago in Tallinn.
Such a cool event, each item for sale was paired with it's own cocktail. The bartenders invented the Summer-Drinking cocktail to pair with this piece (the drink was a shot of tequila & sangrita) ☮️ 🍹
Riso printed in black and red (for the karaoke titles effects) with the help of @ethananthonyread , and chopped on the guillotine with the help of @jordyweaver . Thanks housemates!
Thanks @agnes.isabelle and @linneaari for inviting me to contribute this short text about getting sunburnt and finding crucial distance between my two homes; Melbourne and Tallinn. I wrote it after travelling back in time by 60 degrees celsius to greet some previous versions of myself. Also love the chance to moonlight as a writer. 🌚
Includes some images from a favourite tram stop in Camberwell + fridge in South Yarra, a scan of my nonna's diary from when she got lost in Brunswick, and an excerpt by Clarice Lispector.
Drink card designed by @fairenough_bookfair

Bus trip from Estonia to Lithuania to Poland to Germany to Switzerland to Slovenia and back again with my classmates learning about offset printing & publishing what a dream @ekagd_ma ❤️❤️❤️❤️ 🌭
Announcement for "Too Many Shifu", a talk by Pianpian He + Max Harvey @infoandupdates a couple nights ago at Niine 8a, Tallinn. 🍎
Inspired by the advertisements in a vintage copy of Art Forum. Printed and 'bound' back inside the mag

New poster for @bodyconcert front door on Queensberry street. Channeled the spirit of a current assignment at @ekagd_ma to "make bad work", which I've come to interpret as embracing a loose grip, or embracing not-knowing.
