End of an era. Selfmade Something was my first dream turned reality. It began as a play shop for families, creatives, and community to explore together. Even though I always knew this space would be temporary because of redevelopment plans, I believed in its potential and loved watching it grow. What started as a “family concept store” quickly (and lovingly) became known as the neighborhood “toy store,” which I fully embraced. By the end of 2024, I opened a pop-up store and decided to move our lifestyle gifts and grown-up goods to Potluck Hawaiʻi, and let Selfmade focus just on keiki. Then 2025 happened. Between unpredictable tariffs and rising costs, I chose to keep our prices fair—because access matters. As much as I wanted to keep both spaces alive, I had to make the difficult decision to close Selfmade as a separate shop. It just isn’t the right time to relocate two stores. And while there’s still so much joy in toys and play, the reality is that small indie kids’ shops like mine face big competition—with big box stores and digital devices in the mix. So with love and gratitude, we close this chapter on Selfmade Something as a standalone space. But this isn’t the end. Potluck Hawaiʻi is still open Wednesday–Sunday at Ward Centre, and we’ll continue to carry a selection of Selfmade items for the keiki. We’re working on a refreshed concept as we get ready for our move in 2026. Follow over at @potluckhawaii to watch the next chapter unfold. it’s been a long time coming, but finally it’s here. “inspiration comes in many forms” drop sleeve tee will be available at @selfmadesomething (keiki size) and @potluckhawaii (adult size) on sunday, 7/20. in collaboration with @milkibunns , this limited tee was created to play on the artistic fundamentals of “form” with the organic and inorganic shapes. the artist shares that inspiration comes from thinking outside of the box and exploring things that may not necessarily fit together right away (but hopefully in the end come together cohesively). we are excited to bring this artistic piece to the shops! and maybe it’s just me, but the person in this piece looks like a saja boy! 🥤
