End of an era.
Selfmade Something was my first dream turned reality. It began as a play shop for families, creatives, and community to explore together. Even though I always knew this space would be temporary because of redevelopment plans, I believed in its potential and loved watching it grow.
What started as a āfamily concept storeā quickly (and lovingly) became known as the neighborhood ātoy store,ā which I fully embraced. By the end of 2024, I opened a pop-up store and decided to move our lifestyle gifts and grown-up goods to Potluck HawaiŹ»i, and let Selfmade focus just on keiki.
Then 2025 happened. Between unpredictable tariffs and rising costs, I chose to keep our prices fairābecause access matters. As much as I wanted to keep both spaces alive, I had to make the difficult decision to close Selfmade as a separate shop. It just isnāt the right time to relocate two stores. And while thereās still so much joy in toys and play, the reality is that small indie kidsā shops like mine face big competitionāwith big box stores and digital devices in the mix. So with love and gratitude, we close this chapter on Selfmade Something as a standalone space.
But this isnāt the end. Potluck HawaiŹ»i is still open WednesdayāSunday at Ward Centre, and weāll continue to carry a selection of Selfmade items for the keiki. Weāre working on a refreshed concept as we get ready for our move in 2026. Follow over at
@potluckhawaii to watch the next chapter unfold.
To every single person who has ever walked in, bought a little gift, or shared the Selfmade Something nameāMAHALO ā¤ļø. Being voted Best of Honolulu in 2024 was a huge honor. Sharing the joy of play with your keiki has been the best part. š„¹
To my team members who worked the shop and greeted our customers with a smile, and have been so understanding while I was tending to my family or homeschooling my kidsā THANK YOU šš½
Owning a small business right now isnāt easy, and I know Iām not alone in that. To all my fellow small biz owners still hanging in thereāI see you, and Iām right there with you.
Hereās to new beginnings. š¤
