Yiayia Next Door x Eleni's Kitchen + Bar are raising money for SecondBite.
If you’ve ever been to a Tavern Night at Eleni’s Kitchen + Bar, you already know: it’s loud, it’s generous, and it’s like walking into a Greek village party, right here in Melbourne.
This June, for one night only, Eleni’s Kitchen is collaborating with social enterprise Yiayia Next Door for an even bigger night — all in the name of a good cause. Expect a multi-course Greek feast, live music, a belly dancer and all the plate smashing you can handle. Try your luck in the raffle, and know that every ticket sold is helping SecondBite in its fight against food insecurity.
Come for the food. Stay for the dancing. Leave knowing you made a difference.
Eleni’s Kitchen + Bar, 28 Anderson Street, Yarraville | Friday 19 June | 7.30pm | $85 per person (food and entertainment included; drinks available for purchase)

A client shared that she has been going without food because she had to put petrol in the car…as she needs to drive for work. We are hearing these stories regularly and it’s having such a measurable impact on vulnerable clients in our community. It’s heartbreaking." - Pathway Community Centre Director, Noelle Wallis.

As fuel prices surge amid escalating global conflict, new national research reveals Australian households are being pushed closer to food insecurity – with the majority now feeling the strain.
Data from the SecondBite Food Insecurity Sentiment Survey, conducted in partnership with YouGov, shows cost-of-living pressures are intensifying rapidly, with almost all Australians (94%) concerned about rising costs over the next six months and food emerging as the most pressing pressure point (62%).

An inspiring volunteer-run hub for food relief is distributing thousands of kilograms of rescued food every week from a former kindergarten in Melbourne.

NSW households throw out nearly 220 kg of food every year – that’s around $2,100 straight into the bin!
To help fight food waste and ease pressure on landfill, we’ve awarded more than $10 million towards 51 projects.
Now more households can recycle their scraps, more businesses can manage food waste responsibly, and more charities can deliver nutritious meals for communities.
Less waste. Lower emissions. More good food reaching people who need it. This is how we build a more sustainable NSW.
Passionfruit has joined the VIC fleet as our biggest truck yet. đźš›
At 17.1 tonnes capacity, Passionfruit's approximately 4 tonnes more than our next largest vehicle, adding serious scale to our VIC fleet. That means we can now deliver up to 85,500 kg of food a week, the equivalent of 171,000 meals, to people doing it tough.
More collections from retailers, growers, manufacturers, and DCs across the state. More deliveries to agency partners. More food where it's needed most.
A big thank you to @eurocold_trucks for making Passionfruit possible. We couldn't do it without your support.
The Minns Labor Government has awarded more than $10 million to businesses, organisations and Councils who are rescuing food waste across NSW.
Organisations, like SecondBite, are redirecting leftover PRODUCE to charities that can make around 520,000 meals each year for people in need. Â
The partnership between the NSW Government, Sydney Markets and SecondBite demonstrates how collaboration and creativity can support communities experiencing food insecurity.
TAVERN NIGHT FOR A CAUSE: Yiayia Next Door & Eleni’s Kitchen + Bar for SecondBite
Tavern Night has always been about the table. The food, yes ~ but more than that, the people around it, and what it means to show up for each other.
This June 19, @eleniskitchenandbar is hosting a Tavern Night for a Cause with @yiayianextdoor and @secondbite.org ~ two organisations that share a commitment to caring for others through food and community.
Yiayia Next Door was born from a moment of quiet care ~ food passed over a fence to two brothers who needed it.
SecondBite rescues surplus food from those who have it and brings it to those who don’t.
A true testament to Yiayia Eleni’s ethos of giving.
Come to the table. Bring people you love. And help us reach out to those in need.

We recently visited 5FOLD in Yarrabilba, Queensland — an organisation dedicated to offering a hand up, not a handout, to the local community of Logan City through practical support and relational care.
Their services include a Breakfast Club providing 3,000 free breakfasts weekly to local schools, learn-to-drive mentorships for young people aged 16–24, emergency food relief for up to 200 people per week, $5 haircuts, and an affordable op shop.
@5fold_community has been rescuing surplus food from Coles Yarrabilba five days a week since joining SecondBite's Community Connect program in 2022, and has recently expanded the partnership with weekly meal deliveries via the Impact Care Services Hub at Jimboomba. So far this financial year, 19,049 kg of food has been rescued for the community.
As Managing Director Melinda Hartley puts it: "Demand for our emergency relief service has grown 290% over the past 12 months — we're all about relationships, just like this one with SecondBite and FareShare!"
More than 300 million meals delivered through our partnership with Coles since 2011.
For 15 years, @Colessupermarkets and SecondBite have worked together to rescue quality surplus food and redirect it to Australians doing it tough.
What started as a shared commitment has grown into a powerful, nationwide partnership that has delivered the equivalent of more than 300 million meals to those in need.
Every day, food from Coles stores is collected by SecondBite and distributed through community organisations across the country, supporting families, individuals and communities facing food insecurity.
We’re incredibly grateful for this long-standing partnership and the real impact it continues to make for people and the environment.
