The blue whale is the largest animal to ever live. Calves are born around 7 meters (23 ft) long and gain nearly 90 kg (200 lb) a day while nursing — so watching a calf this young begin its journey beside its mother is a reminder that every @ocean giant starts small. @rosslongphoto captures @sea turtle hatchlings in the Ningaloo Reef as they make their first journey to the @ocean . From the moment they emerge, predators are waiting both on land and in the water. Only around 1 in 1,000 will make it to adulthood. #Ocean

The look on their faces… 😍🥹💙 Via @natsoffthegrid : “filmed by our captain @ismarn_ 🙌🏽 These encounters happen in the lagoons of Baja, Mexico. It is a world heritage site protected by UNESCO and is legal under law. Whales approach the boats and engines are in neutral. It is entirely the whales choice to interact with humans. There is no study up to date that proves humans transmit disease to whales. #graywhales” #sea

The largest animal on Earth. Captured by @adamernsterwildlife Blue whales are the most massive creatures ever to exist, reaching up to 30 meters (100 feet) in length and weighing over 150 tons (150,000 kg). Their tongues can weigh as much as an African elephant, and their hearts are the size of a small car. Despite their size, they swim with remarkable grace, powered by massive tail flukes and bodies shaped for minimal drag. They’re also among the loudest animals on the planet, producing calls up to 188 decibels — louder than a jet engine. These sounds can travel across vast distances in the ocean. The ocean sunfish, or mola mola, is the heaviest bony fish on Earth. Adults can reach more than 2,000 kg (4,400 lbs) and measure over 3 m (10 ft) from fin tip to fin tip. Their tall, slab-like bodies and oversized fins give them a look unlike anything else in the ocean. Despite their size, they’re gentle giants that spend much of their time drifting near the surface after deep dives to hunt jellyfish and other soft-bodied prey. Molas grow incredibly fast too — they start life smaller than a coin and can gain hundreds of pounds in a single year. Say hello to the leaf sheep! 🍃 🐑 Have you ever encountered these extraordinary @sea slugs? The most interesting thing about them is that they get their energy from the sun through photosynthesis - just like plants! 🎥 @undersea_gameqmi #sea
