At the end of April, we got the chance to come down and party at @partytimeleeds vol.20, held at Key Club’s new Room 2. This new gig space, which is the room next door to Key Club’s OG venue, is about 100-cap and a great space for up-and-coming bands to perfect their sound. And we saw some of those in the form of @hazel_mp3, @bedworm_band and @paper_leeds, who all played so well. Go check out Hazel for your emo/screamo needs, Bedworm for dreamy, fuzzy shoegaze, and Paper for alt indie pop with stunning vocals. Bedworm is currently the only band with music out in the usual places but hopefully the others will be releasing music soon… Thanks so much @thekeyclubleeds for inviting us down and PartyTime/all the bands for such a great night And big up my minions, @miles_osullivan and @adamjosephbyrne, for helping me out and boogieing with me #leedsmusic #keyclub #diymusic

Today marks the release of Supermaus’ debut EP, Out of Body, a sonically confident and expansive record that uses elements of alt-rock and grunge to paint a ghost story of the human experience.Read Kat’s full review of the record above. If London’s Tally Spear (@tallyspear) isn’t already on your radar, she should be. Her latest EP, Bittersweet, is pop-rock at its finest, blending emotive lyrics with catchy hooks that will inevitably get stuck in your head all day.A week after the record’s release, Kat travelled down to London to speak with Tally. Most of the record is themed around the sudden loss of her father last year, and Tally spoke candidly about the important role the writing process played in her grieving process, as well as how her dad encouraged her music career.We also chatted with Tally about her musical influences growing up, her love of DIY fashion, and who sparked her queer awakening. TOMORROW: An interview with @tallyspear Back in April, I braved British rail to meet pop-rock artist Tally Spear in East London. Having just released her new EP, Bittersweet, we talked about everything from the records writing process to her queer awakening. Importantly, we also went vintage shopping after the interview itself, stopping by @eatoutmuch to grab some new jewellery and stare longingly at custom outfits.A big thank you to @eatoutmuch and @sara.s.threads for being so accommodating! Misogyny comes in many forms and the misrepresentation of these influential women is one of them.In our latest feature piece, Alysa Benson (@alysanbenson) gives a history of the groupie phenomena, including some of the most well-known women in the scene, the lasting impact of groupie art-rock band The GTOs, and a look at the music industry’s darker side (see: predatory men.)A big thank you to Alysa for writing such an interesting piece! With their new EP, Committee of Sleep (@committeeofsleep_zzz) have created a lo-fi, fuzzy dreamscape that sounds great in the day but infinitely better at night. Ruling Overturned by the Committee of Sleep is the result of the band’s second recording session in the Lake District — the same one which convinced the band they should actually release some music and play some shows.We sat down with the band to hear more about the EP, its recording process, and the impact of singer and guitarist Olly Lightfoot’s cancer diagnosis. Like any good conversation, we also went on many tangents: from social media to Starbars, to why we should all just embrace being bad at things.Read the full interview via the link in our bio. Leeds’ alt-metal band IO (@ioband_official) refuse to be put in a box — and their frontwoman, Zöe Martin, has thrown the lid right of its hinges.On a balmy St Paddy’s Day, I spoke with Zöe (@aggressivelynice) about the band’s experience starting out in Leeds, as well as her vocal journey from opera prodigee to scream queen to talented vocal coach.Like any good feminists, we also discussed the importance of being “angry” women and how male musicians can be better allies.
