We are so excited to bring @scribblepost ’s newest novel to you in spring 2027!
“Look, beauty is an advantage—just like talent and intelligence. No one objects to improving those assets, so why all the hate over this one?”
As the #OwnIt movement and their #AsIs opponents present two factions of feminism in a near-future, dystopic LA, young Korean-American investigative journalist Lily Han chooses to undergo extensive plastic surgery to advance her career and secure her safety in a nation subject to deportations for Deficients and Insecures. The influx of surgeons from Seoul to LA’s Koreatown make her significant transformation possible, and as Lily gains inside experience of the pleasures and horrors of what it means to homogenize beauty, the #AsIs movement’s growing radical activism threatens everyone, Lily included. And she learns that certain secrets at the moneyed hearts of the beauty industry may have signed her on for more than she bargained for—and more than her body can possibly handle.
Chin-Sun Lee’s SOON YOU’LL BE JUST LIKE US, a horror-thriller with sci-fi elements, serves as a nuanced challenge to the homogenization of Korean beauty standards, set against a nation in political turmoil and subject to intense surveillance.

back from #awp2026—oof! long crammed weekend that started auspiciously by me leaving my contacts at home, a first in 40+ years of travel. crack of dawn thurs @ljsysko & my 4-eyed self drive from wilmington to baltimore, where i’m gagged by a packed house for our “debuting over 50” panel—what a joy to hang with powerhouses @melaniefaranello@zeevabukai@nitanoveno & our 🔥 moderator @sara.lipp ! quick surprise hugs with so many writers (& also so so many i missed), a sneakaway to see the #amysherald exhibit, dinners & booze & dysfunctional ride shares, a long-ass travel day of delayed ✈️✈️ home + the ultimate insult of daylight savings making a 2am bedtime actually 3am. ‘twas wild but oh so happy now to be home🫠
a few belated 📸 from #muses & 🫏 day: it was warmish & humid thurs eve, i got 4 mosquito bites and a shoe, woke up fri to a slew of werk-related emails (always a shock the rest of the world doesn’t get the concept of deep gras), slapped on the wig & sequins for the best day of the year, where i was proudly NOT the donkey. an EMT apparently was called at some point but i was slurping udon by then w/ @tarastarlingbuilt cuz #adulting
‘twas too 🥶for me to venture out for KDV but i let this one lady inside to use my loo cuz her costume was🔥! sunday temps were warmer for tit rex, with lil floats, brass bands, tiny ponies and a baby elvis!

i have to gush @ a gorgeous cinematic diptych i streamed over the last week, THE SOUVENIR, & its sequel, directed by joanna hogg. how did i miss these when they were originally released? loosely autobiographical & quite meta (watch—you’ll see) about young & toxic first love, addiction, obsession, surviving, and most of all, the act of creating. the cinematography, the editing, the music & clothes, the brilliant acting—it left me feeling tender towards them all. and weirdly, as sequels are often disappointing, i loved part 2 even more than part 1. don’t tell me art doesn’t save people’s souls. only if you have no soul to begin with. thank you @appetite_for_redaction for the rec❤️
happy pub day to @lauragreen517 , whose debut SISTER CREATURES, a gothic novel set in louisiana, is out with @unnamedpress ! just got my copy and can’t wait to dive in!🐦⬛
