Our Strategic Advisor, Christy Slater, led a standout session at Harambee 2026, “Meeting the Moment: Building an Ecosystem of Disruption,” grounded in what it truly takes to shift power in philanthropy. Drawing from real examples in New Orleans, the session highlighted how community-driven models like advisory boards, giving circles, and community voting are redefining who holds decision-making power. It also opened up honest conversation around the tensions that come with disrupting traditional grantmaking. Key takeaways centered on the importance of trusting communities as experts, building place-based ecosystems that share power, and using storytelling to shift narratives and drive deeper, more meaningful change. How is your organization shifting power? Drop a comment below. #philanthropy #communityfunding #rootedinjustice

This Earth Day, we’re reminded that protecting the planet means cultivating solutions with people. In Louisiana, communities on the frontlines of climate change are also leading the way forward. At the Foundation for Louisiana, our Climate Justice Program invests in community-driven solutions, supports green workforce development, and advances policies that reflect the needs and vision of the people most impacted. We trust Indigenous leadership. We believe in the power of local knowledge. And we know lasting climate solutions come from working alongside communities, not around them. This Earth Day, we commit to building a future rooted in resilience, equity, and shared responsibility for our planet. Meet Sarah Edmonds, a recipient of the Armature Scholar Award. An LSU student and artist, Sarah uses her work as a way to reflect, remember, and confront self through the environments that shape us. Her journal captures moments of connection, growth, and truth in a deeply personal way. We’re proud to support creatives like Sarah who are telling their stories, exploring identity, and shaping the cultural fabric of our communities. New Orleans, thank you for showing up and showing out for our 20th anniversary celebration this Saturday. We’re still holding onto the energy in the room. From the stories shared to the connections made, it was a powerful reminder of what community looks like when we come together with purpose. For 20 years, Foundation for Louisiana has been rooted in the people, and Saturday was a reflection of that. We honored where we’ve been, celebrated the work happening right now, and looked ahead to what we can build together. To everyone who joined us, supported us, and continues to stand with us, thank you. This milestone belongs to all of us.
