It’s quite a different world stepping outside of the quiet, undistracted space of my studio, into a live calligraphy event out in the wild unknown. At first I wasn’t sure I’d like it. I’m introverted, I make it my general aim to avoid stress, and I often struggle to maintain focus for long (sometimes even short) periods of time. So you can imagine my surprise that time and time again, when opportunities arise for live events, I continue to sign up! As with anything, the more you do it, the easier it becomes and while there’s never a sure fire way to predict how a live event will unfold, I find they keep me on my toes and are often deeply satisfying. You get to work with some pretty incredible people, go to inspired places, and meet some pretty terrific customers who truly appreciate your work. So once the jitters subside and I settle into a comfortable groove, I’ve found I really enjoy this kind of departure from my peaceful studio norm. Sometimes a little chaos can be a refreshing change of pace and just what the doctor ordered. And the best part is when I make someone’s day a little more special by writing their name or the name of a loved one as beautifully as I can manage, I’ve found it makes my day too. I love creating custom crests. This one had so many fun elements it’s hard to know where to start. This soon to be bride and groom requested a lion and lamb as supporters representing their faith, their monogram, an owl to represent wisdom, eucalyptus, a pearl (her birthstone), the North Dakota state flower (prairie rose), elvish because they love LOTR, both college emblems, and science icons to represent their individual areas of concentrated study- biotech & microbiology for him and cell & molecular biology for her. On the banner, in elvish, their names flank “and two shall become one”. It was a journey to get to the final design but a trip worth taking as the final result ended up being a perfect reflection of Wyatt and Isabelle as individuals joining their lives, becoming one as man and wife. #weddingcrest #custominvitations #customcalligraphy #weddingcalligraphy #weddingcalligrapher
