Screenworks Directing Intensive was alive with incredible insights and energy from Ivan O’Mahoney and Ana Kokkinos.
Our selected group of talented emerging directors congregated in Ballina for an immersive two day experience to elevate their directorial practice and connect with likeminded creatives.
Attendee Wendy Champagne said, “It’s a very lively, wonderful and very nuanced discussion so I’m loving it”
Hadley Perkins added “Being connected with Ana and Ivan, it’s inspiring… their creative philosophy, how they’ve developed that and how they’ve made things happen.”

Heath Davis, a multi award-winning filmmaker whose work spans Broke, Christmess, Book Week and Locusts.
Sam Jennings, co-founder of Causeway Films alongside Kristina Ceyton, with credits including The Babadook, Bring Her Back and Talk to Me, with Causeway Films a recipient of the 2026 AACTA Byron Kennedy Award.

The Art of Note-Taking is an online workshop supported by @screennsw with award winning screenwriter Libby Butler.
Libby is a a screenwriter, script editor, director and producer (Ghosts, Surviving Summer S2, Loving Captivity, Neighbours, Erinsborough High, The Heights, Ms Fisthers Modern Mysteries, Playing for Keeps) She has several drama and comedy concepts in active development across Australia and the UK.
She has presented workshops on note-taking for Screen Australia, SBS, the AWG, Screen Queensland, Screenwest, Screen Tasmania, ACMI and the Victorian College of the Arts.
If you’re looking to get a foot in the door of a writers room, this is an accessible introduction to one of the industry’s most valuable entry points.

Screenworks is thrilled to partner with @screenqueensland and @sbs_australia on the tantalising second season of Taste of the Tropics.
Audiences will be taken on a delicious culinary journey across North and Far North Queensland with episode hosts comedian and actor Steph Tisdell, restaurateur Oliver James and scientist Sharon Cavanagh-Luskin.
Taste of the Tropics is a hands-on initiative that creates real opportunities for filmmakers while supporting the development of world-class screen content that showcases regional talent.
As part of the talent development program behind the scenes, three producing teams led by Caden Pearson, Tamera Simpson and Kate Boylan-Ascione received $35,000 in funding to develop their episodes Share Plates, Foodie Friends – with Oliver James and Tropical Innovators. All were carefully crafted under the guidance of independent Supervising Producer Karen Warner and assistance from Brisbane post-production house @thepostlounge
Episodes will drop on SBS Food and SBS On Demand from Thursday 30 April.
Congratulations to Ben Molenaar - our first Screenworks Digital Games Career Pathway recipient!
Ben is a versatile game developer with a Bachelor of Game Development who is dedicating himself to crafting immersive digital experiences in this rapidly expanding creative field.
Through this program, supported by @screennsw and @IGEA , Ben will receive targeted financial support, industry access and career-building opportunities, plus an IGEA membership.
Ben said, "I am incredibly excited to join the Digital Games Pathway program. Having been active in both local community dev groups and the wider industry, I have seen first-hand how vibrant the Australian game development scene is.
"This program represents a unique chance to elevate my work and scale my studio's operations, while allowing me to bring those learnings back to regional talent. It is the perfect catalyst for professional growth and for building meaningful connections within the Australian creative community.”

Taking place in Hobart from 16-18 May, this free workshop provides valuable skills and contributes to the development of Australia’s screen pipeline.
Previous Regional Crew Pathways participants include Tasmania’s 2025 recipient, Juliet May who is now working locally with Hive Productions, Gina Weston who secured a Director’s Assistant role on the upcoming action film The Mark, starring Jessica Alba - plus A’mi Gray who has gone on to work with Baz Luhrmann’s Bazmark.
