Producer Michiel Dhont of @thereunionproductions talks about Lukas Dhont's 𝘾𝙤𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙙, which premieres in competition at the 2026 @festivaldecannes .
From the outset, the goal was to film as much of the film as possible in Belgium, in which support from the cultural and regional economic funds was crucial.
"It was really important for me, for this project, and for Lukas to keep it close to home. Because it is about Belgium’s First World War, it had a significance to shoot on the soil where it all happened."

𝘊𝘰𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥, Lukas Dhont's third feature film, has been selected for the Official Competition at the Cannes Film Festival (12 - 23 May).
This marks Lukas Dhont’s third selection for Cannes. His feature debut 𝘎𝘪𝘳𝘭 (2018) premiered in 𝘜𝘯 𝘊𝘦𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯 𝘙𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘳𝘥, where it won the 𝘊𝘢𝘮é𝘳𝘢 𝘥’𝘖𝘳 for Best First Feature. His follow-up film 𝘊𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘦 was selected for the 𝘖𝘧𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 in 2022 and went on to win the 𝘎𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘗𝘳𝘪𝘹.

De presentaties van de visit.brussels Film Commission, VisitBritain, gemeente Knokke-Heist en het Fort van Breendonk gaven inspirerende inzichten over de kracht van film & tv om een bestemming (inter)nationaal op de kaart te zetten, en vooral wat je daar als stad, gemeente of organisatie strategisch mee kan doen.

🎬Meet De Mensen
"We’ve been making high-end fiction for more than a decade, in all kinds of genres, from crime series and comedy shows to drama and feature films. Regardless of the genre, we make stories for, with and about people. Empathy is key," says producer Ivy Vanhaecke.
Created in 2001, De Mensen has become one of the biggest fiction and non-fiction production companies in the Benelux region. The group includes the original De Mensen production house, Skyline Entertainment, and Gardner and Domm in Flanders, plus Les Gens in Brussels, a natural bridge to Belgium’s French-speaking region. Since 2019, De Mensen has been part of Studio TF1, headquartered in Paris.
Their new series Breendonk will première at @seriesmania this Wednesday.

The Screen Flanders-supported feature film 𝐀𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐡 𝐈𝐬 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐎𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐝 is Zaven Najjar’s feature debut. Starring a Guinean orphan forced to become a child soldier, the film was presented in development at Cartoon Movie 2018, had its world premiere at the Annecy Film Festival, and was released in cinemas across France on March 4. Belgium cinema's will follow on June 17th.
