A breach from the usual…
This interstellar space orca helped inspire this interstellar unicorn of firey goodness. When faced with the question of more technical based or character based performance, the answer was more obvious than breathing through a blowhole. Sometimes you got to do what the orcas do and slap your tail feather against the stage so the humans ooooo and ahhh.

Creating this show every year is a huge amount of work and @rosecitycircus always puts together a great team to do it. We put a ton of time into the script with the rest of the script writing team and are performing two acts this year. Scramble James started juggling in 2010, while attending Humboldt State University after meeting the Humboldt Circus. Since then he has performed in seven countries, out at sea, and across the United States.
Some career highlights include winning both the Fire Entertainer of the Year (as a solo) and the International Jugglers Association Teams competition (with Eli March), headlining the wiener dog race ‘Dogtona 400’ halftime show and performing for the spirits in an Alaskan graveyard.
Currently, Scramble James regularly performs as a solo artist, with Circus Luminescence up and down the West Coast, and as a collaborating artist in ensemble productions. In addition to performing with Circus L, you can find him performing with MarchFourth, Rose City Circus, Flamebouyant Productions, and at events such as Portland Winter Lights, White Album XMAS, Moisture Festival, and the Oregon Country Fair.
Scramble James and his 8 year passing partner extraordinaire, Eli March, are teaching two classes: “Club Passing: Come learn the basics or learn tricks!” And “All things Dr. Attacks: count changes, tuck variations, nonstop juggle, scissors, traps, and more weirdness.”

It has been a bit of a journey this year to juggle again. Today, I had my first training day since December and it was bittersweet.
I hurt my knee last year, probably in April while building a fence. I twisted on it while squatting and felt some acute pain. It was momentary though and honestly thought it was fine. I had some limitation of movement but very little and only in the very end range of the joint. It was getting better until early June when I got back to the Airbnb one night on tour and it felt sore. The next morning, it was painful. By the end of the week, I could barely walk. Eli and I changed our show to accommodate the injury but it was June and we had an incredibly busy touring season lined up. I saw my PT to make sure the knee was stable and when he told me it was, I knew I needed to push through. We thought it was either a medial meniscus tear, or tendenosis of the pes anserine. June turned into July, then August, and so on. In October I felt like it has to be a tear. I set up the MRI for early November and sure enough, torn it was. At that moment, I was months into directing the White Album Xmas show and just a week or so away from opening night. I honestly didn’t have the bandwidth to deal. So I didn’t. I told a couple people about it and told them not to say anything to folks. I wasn’t sure if surgery was needed or not, but I didn’t want to deal with talking about it, or people questioning if I should still be working. White Album Xmas happened, the show and experience a huge success. However, the knee was not feeling good. I set up an appointment with two different orthopedic docs. They both gave the same opinion. Surgery was the best option. After seeing the second surgeon in early January, I got the surgery a couple days later with the first surgeon. Turns out, the meniscus is mostly non-vascular with the inner portion being mostly devoid of blood supply 🤯. My multiple tears went from the inner center, all the way around to the posterior medial horn. Due to the complex nature of the tear to non-vascular tissue, they removed the torn tissue.
