Had a such a great evening celebrating the launch of
@edwebbingall brilliant new book ‘The Story of British Video Activism’
@britishfilminstitute 🎥
Ed was in conversation with
@iamjemmadesai and it was inspiring to hear them talk about the ways grassroots groups “whose voices were routinely ignored or silenced by mainstream media”, transformed collective filmmaking in the 60’s &70’s by adopting the new technology of portable video “as a powerful tool to document and share their experiences on their own terms” 💥
I’ve been lucky enough to work with Ed on a few projects and witness first-hand how committed he is to these principles in his own work - so go buy the book!
Stills from How to Use a Portapak (1978) & Framed Youth Revenge of the Teenage Peverts (1983) - check out
