Some personal news… After 10 years working in local news as an editor, and a couple more as a freelance photographer, I’ve moved onto a role as a photo editor for the @nytimes The Times has always been the place that I’ve admired most during my career in journalism over the past 12 years. I’m thankful to have been a small part of it since my first assignment as a photographer in 2020. Now I have the opportunity to work with amazing colleagues and photographers in a deeper and more consistent clip. The journey to get here has come with some amazing wins and some really tough losses, but I’m thankful for every one of those experiences. I’m still based in Texas, and will continue to take the occasional photography assignment, so don’t completely forget about me. Thank you to all my dear colleagues, friends and family that have shown me unwavering support for so many years. There are so many to thank but the majority know who you are. And if not, you’ll be hearing from me soon. - Scott 🧡📰

Recent work for the @nytimes flying over the $500 billion data center project Stargate flagship in Abilene, TX. I’ve never seen anything like it. Thanks to @jfurt for the support and edits.

Last week marked exactly one year since I made the jump to being a freelance photographer full time. The journey this past year has been incredibly rewarding and equally frightening. Highlights include traveling to amazing destinations like Jamaica, Mexico, and Canada along with some wonderful stops in South Carolina, New Mexico, New York multiple times, and throughout the state of Texas. I’ve photographed for clients both big and small with consistent work in some of my favorite publications like the Washington Post, the Times of London, and the New York Times. I even found myself atop a wind turbine, a bucket list item that I never could have dreamt of. Lots of mixed feelings are kind of tied up in my heart of hearts when it comes to this past year. With some major support systems in place, I could not have made it this year without some people’s guidance. Cheers to whatever comes next!

Residents of Ciudad Miguel Alemán water their horses in the Rio Grande across from Roma, Texas on Wednesday. The river is a clear attraction for the local residents where children and families enjoy the water together.
