🎉 Exciting news! Today the Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art announced an approximately $100 million project that will result in a transformation and expansion of the organization’s 15-acre campus. The project includes construction of a 40,000 square-foot new museum building designed by Kengo Kuma & Associates (@kkaa_official )—the architect’s first museum building in the U.S.—in association with @schwartzsilver Architects Inc., along with significant renovations to the Brandywine Museum of Art’s beloved historic Mill building.
Landscape design for the expanded campus will be led by @fieldoperations and will include a remarkable expansion of the current Chadds Ford campus into a 325-acre public preserve and garden featuring ten miles of trails bookended by the two museum buildings. When completed, the new trails will create a loop through the changing landscape between both museum buildings, as well as the original studios of N.C. Wyeth and Andrew Wyeth.

At the completion of this transformative project, Brandywine will be one Museum with two buildings, connected by a beautiful 325-acre public preserve and gardens with trails and outdoor spaces where guests can learn and find inspiration as they walk in the footsteps of great American artists. Visitors will also have a more immersive understanding of the Brandywine Conservancy’s activities through a new interactive exhibit in the Mill building and by learning opportunities along the campus preserve and trails.

Schwartz/Silver had the privilege of working with Frank Gehry on 360 Newbury Street, which won the Harleston Parker Medal in 1991 as the “most beautiful building” in Greater Boston. At the time, it was one of the largest built projects for both offices. Frank made an indelible mark, and with this early work he transformed both Boston and our practice. We are so grateful to be a part of his amazing legacy, may his example last for generations.

What started as a euphoric dream – Warren Schwartz envisioning a sunrise over the Grand Canyon – eventually became his own private residence: Tanglewood 2.
Like many of Warren’s designs, the home was shaped by music and sketching, and features a striking 46-foot cantilever.
21 years later, the dream and house still stand strong. We recently had the privilege of touring the home with Warren and his canine sidekick, Brio.

87 Trumbull Street has received the AIA New England Honor Award for Excellence in Architecture. The jury remarks: “The design thoughtfully integrates modern materials and techniques, ensuring durability and sustainability. Beautifully nestled within a small footprint between two historic educational buildings, the 87 Trumbull Street project seamlessly blends contemporary architecture with reinterpreted historic details. Cast stone elements emulate the original terracotta banding of 28 Hillhouse, while bay windows recall the character of the older structures, creating a cohesive aesthetic that respects the scale and context of the Hillhouse Avenue Historic District. It stands as a testament to the harmonious coexistence of the old and the new in a historically significant setting.”
