From his kayak, photographer Andy Crawford is able to reach places a world apart from modern society, witnessing sunrises usually only seen by spoonbills, and the gentle ripples left behind a great blue heron’s slow stroll. Evidence of humans exists here, too, though, and Crawford meditates on this in photos of moonlit fishing camps and river chapels, ditches left from the logging era, and the invasive apple snail’s egg sacks clinging to cypress trees. "Into the Lost World: A Journey into Louisiana's Bayou Country" was published April 28, 2026.
It can be purchased online through Schiffer Publishing at schifferbooks.com or at andycrawfordphotos.com, where you can see more of Crawford's work, or sign up for one of his photography workshops.

This Autism Acceptance Month, we want to recognize two young men who have been making real contributions to our team over the past several months.
Working through the Pathway 21 School Work Experience program at Octorara High School (@octorarasd ), they've been alongside our warehouse staff learning the behind-the-scenes of book publishing: stocking, packing, and shipping. They bring a level of focus and care that our team genuinely values.
Pathway 21 partners with local businesses to give students hands-on professional experience.
We're grateful to Octorara and the program team for the partnership, and to these two young men for being part of what we do. We're better for it.

Quilting is an essential part of American art and culture and has long expressed our history. The 250 quilts in this new book artistically express the contribution of one state, in particular, to our nation’s history: Virginia.
In conjunction with the prestigious Virginia Quilt Museum’s mission to cultivate and preserve the quilting arts in Virginia, these quilts were expressly made for the US semiquincentennial this year,
and were created by award-winning fiber artists and accomplished amateurs alike.
The fabric in these stitched creations highlight Virginia’s nature, science, history, people, involvement in the Civil War, maps and boundaries, and more. From Ella Fitzgerald to Dave Matthews, from Chapstick to peanut farms, from the Underground Railroad to America’s railroad industry, the quilts deliver a new perspective.
