Higgins Boat/D-Day display at the National Museum of the US Army. The full scale dioramas here are extremely lifelike, probably the best I have seen. Also, the landing craft is real, with a WWII combat history. #higginsboat #landingcraft #dday

Today marks the 57th anniversary of the Apollo 8 mission, the first manned spaceflight to escape earth’s gravity and orbit the moon, and the mission that was called “the greatest voyage since Christopher Columbus”.
Launching on December 21, 1968 and splashing down on the 27th, the Apollo 8 team was comprised of three astronauts: Frank Borman, Jim Lovell, and William Anders.
These men were the first to ever see and photograph the far side of the moon and an Earthrise, showing the Earth rising over the horizon like the Sun does.
APOLLO 8 IN PHOTOGRAPHS provides the full story of the mission, from the preparations to launch, the view from the moon, and what this mission’s success meant to the Space Race.
