Do you know about our Sunwise Co-op in the Village Homes neighborhood?
Students living in the on-campus co-ops wanted a place to continue living in Davis after they graduated, so they taxed themselves, saved up a bunch of money, and worked with the Village Homes developers to build the Sunwise Co-op, formally incorporating into the SCHA nonprofit in 1979.
Sunwise is an eight bedroom two story house with a warm kitchen, stocked pantry, living room full of musical instruments, a garden with chickens, outdoor shower, fire pit and more. The house was built with a few passive solar technologies and the neighborhood has countless parks, fruit trees and a swimming pool, all connected by a series of greenbelts.

SCHA alumni and their loved ones are invited to join, whether you lived at Sunwise, J Street, Corner Co-op, the Tri Co-ops, or the Domes. We had a great time the past few years with a community potluck, tours, photo albums... reminiscing generally. Current members look forward to meeting you and hearing your stories.
We’ll supply some food and a bathtub full of beverages but please bring a potluck dish to share (vegan/vegetarian preferred) and any additional drinks of your choice. We’ll have picnic tables set up, but you might want to bring your own chair with you.
We’ll have space for folks to share co-op stories, poetry, song. We’ll pull out the photo albums and journals but please bring anything else you’d like to share with current members.
🍁 We can’t wait to see you for Fall Homecoming! 🍂
Among the covid conscious folks in Davis, is there anyone who’d be interested in living in a housing cooperative? Perhaps the J Street Co-op is your new home!
Generally, the idea of co-living is something that many covid cautious folks might not even consider due to it seeming impossible to have different housemates adhering to the same level of precautions, but what if there was a cooperative where all of the members were, and there were clear agreements surrounding protocols for different situations?
For clarity, some of the expectations when referring to “covid cautious” would include:
♡ masking in indoor spaces outside of the home
♡ masking in outdoor spaces when they’re particularly crowded
♡ knowing how to test mask fit
♡ open and enthusiastic communication about potential exposures
♡ a general passion for not getting sick.
(it’s fine to not know some of these things as long as you’re interested in learning!) Whatever reason you choose to be covid cautious need not be disclosed, we’re just interested in folks who are.
This will be available come September. The exact agreements will always be in flux and will be determined by folks already in the house and folks who are coming in, so please send in an application soon so we can begin discussing!
If you’re interested, you can apply at schadavis.org.
