June of 2025. *checks notes*
Yup. Horror is STILL Queer! Celebrating Pride month with the first of what I hope will be a continuing series of articles on @macabredaily celebrating the intersections of Queer culture and the horror genre.
Happy (scary) Pride all! š¤ š» š¤
24 hours later and still cannot stop thinking about this performance from @indenavarrette in @obsessionthemovie
This movie just doesnāt work without Indeās captivating performance. Simultaneously one of the most frightening and heartbreaking characters in horror.
This acting job will be talked about alongside Toni Collette, Amy Madigan, Demi Moore and Jodie Foster as one that (whether it happens or not) should be recognized come award season.
Canāt wait to see what she does next! An āEvil Deadā movie perhaps? Get on it @sonypictures
Does Bear š» remind you of anyone?
Yāall. We have been warning you about these dudes for years now. The āgood guysā. The sad, simpering, man-boys. Those Hugh Grant, Adam Brody, and Michael Cera (no offense to these fantastic actors) types that society has worked so hard to convince us were harmless and āadorkableā.Ā
Looks like Curry Barker was paying attention and decided to show us just how dangerous their form of āloveā can truly be.
@obsessionthemovie was brutal, disturbing, and really impressive! 4.5 out 5 š Great date night flick! š
All credit to @themichaeljohnston for bringing to life someone we love to hateā¦while also being so scared for!
Donāt judge this event by my middling photography talent. Judge it by the passion, enthusiasm and heart of the authors, hosts, and packed crowd of horror lit fans!
@seanoc32 , @baum.rebecca and @macabredaily should be BEYOND proud of the incredible Salon of Horror: Feminine Horrifique event they created. The setting at @vonbarnyc set the perfect tone.
Anyone who knows them will know the enthusiasm and joy that Sean and Rebecca brought to their hosting. And it was lovely to properly meet the fine folk from @brooklynatticbooks who had an amazing array of books for sale.
And the freaking authors! Rebecca herself along with @sarahinkley.jpg , @what.the.horror , and @kailee_pedersen were mind blowing. There is truly something magical about listening to an author read their own work.
And did I mention there was impromptu opera???
So happy to be there to support them and I cannot wait til next time! š¤š¤š¤
Digging into a new ARC from thesophiewhit and @ninestarpress
āPhoning Faustā asks what happens when you call the suicide hotlineā¦and accidentally get the devil themself on the line?
As a horror fan and therapist this premise is pure catnip to me! Canāt wait to get into it and write a review for @macabredaily

In horror I continually findā¦The darker the movie, the kinder the creators!
I was so lucky to not only be able to catch a screening of āIt Needs Eyesā (2025) in person at @cranfordtheater but also to spend some quality time with co-writer/directors @pagnarok33 and @zackogre as well as their talented cast @thelydiafiore and @inplaceoffallenstars
Wonderful people all and theyāve made a truly poignant, topical, and unsettling film about the price we might pay when we turn to the darker corners of the web to escape our pain.
They are bringing their film on the road to get as many eyes on it as possible. There are still screenings planned for Brooklyn and Pennsylvania. If you are nearby seek them out! Theyāve more than earned their place at the table of indie horror filmmaking.
Actual footage of @saratogaishere and I brainstorming future story ideas about haunted bird-feeders. Oh and of course we found some time to chat about their latest novel āThe Last Time We Drownedā coming to you from @cosmoreads on June 2nd.
Excited to share our talk about the book, the commodification of our bodies on social media, queer horror, and plenty more on @macabredaily later this month!
Tis the season to pull our camping gear out of the closets. Really feeling the vibes thanks to this shirt from @johnjfalco
In the running for a new favorite. š¤šļøšŖš¤
Do you like your horror weird and gay AF? Then look no further than āDecomposition Bookā by @saramcclarinet
Releasing May 19th from @hanoversquarepress this is a book that very nearly defies categorization. Ghost story, love story, body horror, and survival story all wrapped up in a queer little package, with a hefty dose of mental health epic on the side.
I had such a blast with this book. But if possible I enjoyed my conversation with Sara even more. Cannot wait to share the interview and review with yāall at @macabredaily next month!
And is Saraās tshirt game on point or what? Sheās an author to keep an eye on for sure!
