Thanks to @scaleire for hosting a great Regional Start-Up Summit in Athlone last week. Our CEO, Jackie (Jac) Dunne, MBA, spoke on the opening panel alongside leaders from Zinkworks, Atlantic Bridge, Enterprise Ireland, ISIF, and Google, sharing views on how regional innovation can scale globally. Great to hear strong support for Irish start-ups from across the ecosystem and how Ireland-based startups can take on the world! Minister Peter Burke spoke about the strength of Ireland’s reputation in Europe and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to backing new and growing businesses. Minister Niamh Smyth highlighted the positive impact AI is already having and the importance of building trust as adoption grows. Vanessa Hartley, Head of Google Ireland, shared insight on the pace of AI and encouraged founders to focus on how AI is applied and deployed. Well done to Martina Fitzgerald and the Scale Ireland team for leading such an energising summit. #ExperienceIsEverything

To coincide with our 4th Annual Regional Start-Up in Athlone today, we’re pleased to share the findings from our State of Start-up Survey 2025, representing insights from 235 Founders and CEOs. For the fourth consecutive year, access to funding remains the predominant concern among founders, with 80% of respondents indicating that attracting private capital is either “difficult” or “very difficult” — consistent with our findings from the previous three years. The survey also reveals that start-ups are embracing AI technologies, with nearly 88% of founders either currently deploying or preparing to implement AI solutions. Notably, while 59% of respondents are aware of the new EU AI Act, approximately 44% acknowledge uncertainty about its potential impact on their businesses — highlighting an information gap that could present challenges in the future. The report contains numerous additional insights regarding skills development, talent acquisition, diversity initiatives, sustainability practices, and other key areas of interest. Next week, we will celebrate International Women's Day with the theme "Promoting Our Innovative Female Leaders." As part of this, our latest survey (link in our bio) includes key questions about the presence of female founders and the leadership roles women hold in Ireland’s start-up, scaling, and high-growth companies. These questions need to be answered by everyone – not just women. Understanding the landscape requires insights from across the sector to drive meaningful change. Your input will help us build a clearer picture of where we stand and strengthen our advocacy for a more inclusive and dynamic start-up ecosystem. Take a few minutes to share your perspective and help shape the future of innovation in Ireland. The input of your network is equally as important as your own, so please do share. 🙏 #internationalwomensday #inclusion #equality #femalefounders
