One day on… and still thinking about it.
🎬 Well, that’s a wrap on #TheRealDeal2026.
A full room, plenty of straight-talking, and more than a few notes worth holding onto.
From Thomas Kelly’s take on resilience, to Áine Denn on building (and rebuilding), to Sean O’Connor and Michael O'Rourke sharing what happens when the stakes are high - there was no shortage of real experience in the room on a sunny day at @goffs1866 .
A big thank you to everyone who joined us - always good to see so many familiar faces (and a few new ones).
Thanks also to our partners Renatus and @bankofireland Corporate and Commercial, and to our sponsors @the_currency_news ,Byrne Wallace Shields, @thepanellife , @nostra.ie , @davy_group , @howden.ireland and Polestar Ireland for their continued support in making the day what it was.
And to @mattcooperlastword - back again and as sharp as ever - for keeping things moving (and keeping everyone honest).
Until next year!

☕ Introducing the Latte Index - Q1 2026
A simple question: What does a €5 coffee say about an economy?
We tracked the price of a standard Starbucks latte across major global cities, and the results tell a bigger story about the cost of living, wages, and consumer tolerance for price increases.
📍 London tops the list at €5.93
📍 Dublin follows closely at €5.65
📍 Tokyo remains the most affordable at €3.48
But it’s Dublin that stands out. Dublin isn’t just getting more expensive, it’s starting to price like a global capital. We’re seeing the same pressures as London and New York:
➡️ Rising rents
➡️ Higher labour costs
➡️ Strong urban demand
And there are signs that tolerance is being tested. Consumers are being asked to absorb global-level prices in a smaller economy where cost pressures are being felt more acutely. And that’s where it gets interesting… We’re starting to see pushback, from cost-of-living concerns to more visible protests around energy prices and inflation. There’s a growing question: How much more are consumers willing to absorb?
The Latte Index is a small, everyday lens into a much bigger issue: the resilience (and limits) of discretionary spending.
We’ll be tracking this quarterly. Because sometimes, the clearest economic signals… come from the smallest (and absolutely essential on a Monday morning) purchases!

“The gender data gap exists because, for centuries, we simply didn’t ask women.”
Inspired By Her: Today, on International Women's Day, we asked our CEO, Stuart Fitzgerald, to share a woman who has influenced his thinking. His answer came instantly: author and activist Caroline Criado Perez.
🔹Who is a woman who has influenced or inspired your thinking?
💬“Caroline Criado Perez. Her book, Invisible Women, introduced me to the concept of the gender data gap, an idea that fundamentally changed how I see the world.
“The central thesis is very simple. The lives of men have been taken to represent the lives of humans overall and as a result most of recorded human history is one large data gap. I have three smart, thoughtful children – two daughters and a son. And like most parents, I hope they all get the chance to reach their potential. But it seems unfair to think that the world is likely to provide my son with unfettered access to opportunity because he is a white male, while my daughters may have to fight for their place in it. Yet the data suggests precisely that.”
🔹What has this woman taught you?
💬“That inequality isn’t always deliberate - sometimes it’s simply the result of not asking the right questions. Perez shows how the absence of data about women shapes everything from policy to technology to the workplace. Her work is a powerful reminder that when we start measuring and listening properly, we can build a fairer and more effective world for everyone.”
🔹One word to describe them?
💬“I can think of a few: commanding, considered and powerful. I would recommend her work to anyone.”

"External challenges matter, but it is how we think under pressure that determines whether we endure, adapt, or give up"
Ahead of International Women's Day, we asked the men of the Fitzgerald Power’s senior leadership team to share a woman who has inspired them. For Tax Partner, Brian Kelly the answer was simple: Nadine Champion.
🔹Who is a woman who has influenced or inspired you?
💬 "I wouldn’t expect anyone to have heard of Nadine Champion before. She is an Australian kickboxer. I heard her give a talk at a Chartered Accountants event a few years ago."
🔹What has this woman taught you?
💬 "Nadine Champion’s life story centres on the idea that courage is not something you either have or don’t have, but something you practise in small, decisive moments. Through her career as an elite kickboxer and her experience overcoming cancer, she learned that real change often comes from choosing to act despite fear - what she calls taking just “10 seconds of courage”. Those brief moments of decision, repeated over time, can fundamentally alter the direction of a life."
"A consistent lesson from her battles is that the toughest opponent is internal. Whether facing an opponent in the ring or the uncertainty and physical toll of cancer, Nadine emphasises that managing mindset, self talk and emotional control is critical. External challenges matter, but it is how we think under pressure that determines whether we endure, adapt, or give up."
"Finally, her experiences taught her the importance of preparation, support and reinvention. Years of disciplined training helped her stay resilient in crisis, while mentors and trusted people gave her strength when she needed it most. After cancer, she also learned that identity can be rebuilt - that setbacks and loss can become a catalyst for redefining purpose, priorities and what it truly means to live with courage."
"I would encourage everyone to check out her @TEDxSydney talk."
🔹One word to describe them?
💬 "Inspiring"

"Despite setbacks, she kept going. I find that endlessly inspiring.”
Ahead of International Women's Day, we asked the men of the Fitzgerald Power’s senior leadership team office to share a woman who has inspired them. For Chief Operating Office Simon Elmes, astronaut Dr Norah Patten immediately came to mind.
🔹Who is a woman who has influenced or inspired your career?
💬“The Irish astronaut Dr Norah Patten has the job so many of us wanted as kids, and despite years of intense hard work, she makes it look easy. She’s also playing a blinder inspiring women and young girls to consider STEM subjects – I actually can’t think of a better role model!”
🔹What has this woman taught you?
💬“That hard work pays off, even if it’s not in the ways you think it will. Dr Patten was 11 when she first visited NASA, and has spent her life building up to where she is now. Despite setbacks, she kept going. I find that endlessly inspiring.”
🔹One word to describe them?
💬“Groundbreaking.”

“From the start, she was a mentor, and she’s made some impact on my life.”
Ahead of International Women's Day, we asked the men of the Fitzgerald Power’s senior leadership team to share a woman who has inspired them. For Pharmacy Department Partner Leigh Quilty, a few women came to mind, one of them of this parish.
🔹Who is a woman who has influenced or inspired your career?
💬“It’s cliché to say my grandmother, my mother, my wife… But I have so many women in my life I’ve learned from, and they’ve all been huge supports to me as I’ve gone through my career. My mum worked when we were small so that instilled a strong work ethic, and a real sense of balance.
💬“From a work perspective today, I have to say my fellow Pharmacy Partner, Catriona Threadgold – we’ve been working together since 2003, so she's had to deal with me for two decades! From the start, she was a mentor, and she’s made a huge impact on my career."
🔹What have these women taught you?
💬“The thing that stands out, both inside and outside of the job, is how to deal with people. Working alongside Catriona has really shaped everything that I’ve done, particularly with clients, and I have her to thank for that."
🔹One word to describe them?
💬“Driven. Unfortunately for my mum, it’s more in the literal sense – she drove us all around the place!"
#teamFP #InspiredByHer #IWD2026 #GiveToGain #IrishBusiness #InternationalWomensDay #EmpowerWomen #WomenInLeadership #GirlPower #WomensDay
"It’s hard not to be inspired by her, to be honest."
Ahead of International Women's Day, we asked the men of the Fitzgerald Power’s senior leadership team to share a woman who has inspired them. For Chairman Lorcan Tiernan, the answer galloped right into view: Rachel Blackmore.
🔹Who is a woman who has influenced or inspired your career?
💬“In recent memory, it would have to be Rachel Blackmore. She is a woman who reached the absolute top of her game in what was a male dominated world, and who keeps turning out time and again even when the odds were stacked against her. And on top of that she comes across as being a fantastic person. It’s hard not to be inspired by her, to be honest."
🔹What has she taught you?
💬“That the best way out is often through. And that persistence and hard work is what gets you to where you need to be.”
🔹One word to describe her?
💬“I can think of a few… Tenacious, hard-working, passionate, strong.”
#teamFP #InspiredByHer #IWD2026 #GiveToGain #IrishBusiness #InternationalWomensDay #EmpowerWomen #WomenInLeadership #GirlPower #WomensDay
Inspired By Her: Ahead of International Women’s Day, we asked the men of the Fitzgerald Power’s senior leadership team to tell us about a woman who has inspired them throughout their lives. Spanning sport, family and even astronauts, they credit a number of women for influencing them in the best ways.
First up is Noel Winters, Corporate Finance Partner who lauded the efforts of Sonia O'Sullivan. "Seeing her put Ireland on the map back in the nineties will always stick with me."
🔹Who is a woman who has influenced or inspired you?
💬“It always goes back to Sonia O’Sullivan for me. Seeing her put Ireland on the map back in the nineties will always stick with me, particularly at a time when women weren’t as celebrated in the sports world as they are now.”
🔹What has this woman taught you?
💬“Never to give up, always to keep pushing further, and that the real work is done behind the scenes, not when everyone’s watching.”
🔹One word to describe them?
💬“Legacy. Thanks to her, so many of us tried our hand at athletics. Some not so well, but she certainly made an impact!”
