Sunday’s workshop is perfect for anyone who is curious about using sewing machine but hasn’t made the time to try it or maybe is a little scared! We will get acquainted with this versatile tool and practice a whole bunch of foundational functions. Just a couple spots left!

I don’t exactly know what it means but I know I had to make it

It’s rare I make a pot that’s big enough to hold like a baby 💕 and now she’s found a new home! I’m unbelievably grateful to everyone who was able to make it to the soirée this weekend or send sweet messages in their stead — my heart will be warmed for quite some time. I feel honored to have things I made be welcomed into your homes, and appreciative to all of you who took the time to sit with Kai and my sketchbooks and learn (perhaps too much) about the things that mean something to me! There’s nothing I care about more than the things I care about ♥️ we drove ourselves a little wild making as much as we could for this weekend, and you all made it worthwhile. Extra special thanks to all the darlings who helped set up, price, arrange, break down, deliver sustenance, etc in the lead up and throughout the weekend — it would be a much scranglier scene without you. And to my dear platonic soulmate @kaihillmetalsmithing , I don’t have words for how happy it makes me to have our crafted objects as well as our efforts and sketchbooks meet with such balance 🥰

We are just ONE WEEK from the Soirée!! Sound on for this one if you want some authentic studio sounds minus the podcasts I need going at all times (shoutout audio creators I would be fried without you) @kaihillmetalsmithing and I are working our chilly little hands through these final days to get the goods across the finish line and get our space ready to welcome you! We will be very grateful to all who brave the cold to keep us and our lovely handmades company at 204 Rigsbee Ave in downtown Durham next weekend, December 6 and 7, from 1 to 7pm both days :) You can stop by on your way to/from a number of other markets including @patchworkmarket at the Armory and the @flagmountain.studio sale in Hillsborough (Saturday only)!

We are only a week and a half away from @kaihillmetalsmithing and my holiday soirée / show / sale in downtown durham! I am dutifully pushing goods to the finish line, including these mugs which fit snugly with the soirée theme, which is “field notes”. My eyes and neck and wrists and shoulders are all mad but it’s worth it to have to many cuties to put in the kiln this evening. We can’t wait to see you all see us and our work so soon!!

a little real-time reel I recorded the other day when I was texturing the fur on this wee raccoon — she and other darlings will be on display and for sale the first weekend in December at the “Field Notes” Soirée put together by @kaihillmetalsmithing and me! December 6 and 7, 1-7pm, at 204 Rigsbee Ave, Durham

This illustration I made years ago stays relevant — I’m spending lots of time (but also not enough time) smushing clay into nice shapes for you to enjoy in person in ONE MONTH at @kaihillmetalsmithing and my soirée! The theme for the show is “field notes” and we aim to bring you all more behind the scenes into our lives as avid note takers/list makers/observers. We hope you’ll come and be nosy!! Flip through our sketchbooks! Hold our finished works! Bring your dears! #shopsmall#handmade#holiday#sale#locsl#durham#hillsborough#chapelhill#craft#gifts

The KHM x Sadie Rapp Soirée is just around the corner!!! You wouldn’t know it looking at my nonexistent stock of finished work, but I promise it’s true! I’ll be sharing more about the theme in the coming weeks, but for now the important info is that it’s the first weekend in December, 1 to 7pm both Saturday and Sunday, in downtown Durham at 204 Rigsbee Ave. Go ahead and put it on your calendar so we can be sure to see you and your sweet face!!! #shoplocal#handmade#craft#art#holiday#sale#show#downtowndurham

I gotta acknowledge this is the ONLY workshop I myself Sadie am teaching for the rest of the year! Luckily I get so much satisfaction from hosting other instructors, since that’s become the majority of my weekends, and I’ve been too busy to put more of my own classes on the calendar (shoutout the tremendous project of the new @triplespringstudios building and prepping for holiday sale which will get publicized more soon 👀)!! Things feel hectic but stamp time is always a good time, and I highly suggest you join. Whether you have big plans to DIY holiday cards this year or just want to try something new, this workshop is approachable and empowering. Hope to see you there! #linoleum#lino#stamp#carving#blockprinting#speedball#craft#art#stationary#chapelhill#carrboro#hillsborough#durham#saxapahaw#activities#carrboro#workshop#class

Shana tova to all who celebrate - I hope the moments of ease and presence and amusement and growth from the past year (yes, I promise there were some even if we can’t remember them all the time) find echoes through the next year. I hope for the success of the menders and the caretakers, the restorative rest for all those working for the betterment of the world, no matter the scale. Eat something sweet, and keep going 🍏 Made this apple collage a few years ago and am still very fond of it. I almost never make time for collage but when I do, this is the sort of thing I like to make.

My kind of fish dish 😎 (I’m vegan) I am just now really beginning to make inventory for the holiday season (which may seem fine to normal people, but I like to have more on the shelves by now) which includes making this piece, which got me really excited to make more pots. It’s a red drum AKA redfish rendered in inlaid wild clay slip I dug in central nc. Both the inlaying and the scraping away the excess took about 13 minutes each, and I have no idea how long the carving took beforehand but it was on the scale of hours, not minutes. Hope the firing treats her well! #pottery#ceramics#processvideo#inlay#wildclay#mishima#reveal

I slowed down for a minute today to mix up some food-safe wood finish for this weekend’s spoon carving workshop. So many folks recommend a beeswax and mineral oil combo, but mineral oil is a petroleum product so I ain’t really interested in that. I had to hunt around a little for flax/linseed oil that was just raw, which I found at weaver street with the “medicinal” stuff (boiled linseed oil usually has heavy metal based drying agents, which I also wasn’t interested in, but that’s all the hardware stores had). I think the result is promising! On a finished piece it will take time to really harden and ‘cure’ but it’s edible ingredients so I’m not super worried. This mix is 1 pt beeswax to 2 pt oil, and I did a second batch that’s 1:1 for protecting my steel tools from rust as an alternative to petroleum-based paste wax. Not much can stand up to this humidity but it will be much better than nothing! It’s nice to have a substance for the job that’s not stinky Spoon carving class @triplespringstudios is technically closed but we can accommodate last-minute signups, just send me a message if you want to join! #homemade#woodworking#recipe#finish#beeswax#linseed#foodsafety#diy#oldschool
