Happy World Puppetry Day from my latest (and one of my favorite) puppet-fueled endeavors… Broken Bride! I still haven’t written about challenging-awesome this experience was… long story short, an amazing group of mostly strangers came together for about one magical week and two kickass shows, and during that same week my amazing son had a horrible stomach bug the likes we had yet to experience… in the end, it was a great jumping off point for next steps on the project, and we learned so much about the show/where it’s at/where it’s going— and for me, also learned about doing such an intense process while being a mom! I’m behind on posts because life moves pretty fast and sometimes it’s hard to stop and look around once in a while. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t! Last week was the premiere of The Muppet Show but also auditions for Ludo’s Broken Bride in Chicago but also Emmett’s birthday and today? It’s my first anniversary. If you asked me 20 years ago what I thought my life would look like today I would not have been able to guess in my wildest dreams, but I’m very grateful for all of it… including my amazing chosen family… which, for this first post about all the things going on, includes the amazing workshop team pictured in this photo (and a few that aren’t). Still beyond grateful to have been given the opportunity to lead the Muppet Workshop on a very special Special episode of The Muppet Show. My guest is Stacey Weingarten - @sayetc - Stacey Weingarten is a puppeteer, puppet wrangler, director, writer, and producer who got her puppet start studying with John Tartaglia and later went on to work on the show Johnny and the Sprites. Since then, she’s worked with The Muppets and Sesame Street, where she won an Emmy Award for her work on the show’s 50th season. She also has her own theatrical puppetry projects — Rescue Rue and Runaway Rue — that have played Off-Broadwayand at the Hollywood Fringe Festival. Muppet Workshop Supervisor. The kiddo who dragged around Baby Kermit and shared many TV-dinners in “the room above the garage” with her family over Muppet Show re-runs would be giddy with excitement. (The adult she grew up to be is giddy, too- she just hides it better!) Even more awesome? The Workshop was a dream team, and the collaboration between departments on this one was par excellence! So grateful to those who believed in my ability to lead, and those that came before. I truly hope we get to do it all again… 🎶…do it all again!🎶
