TODAY: SAVE OUR SNAP BLOCK PARTY!
Join us today for a Block Party in partnership with the @saveoursnap Coalition—rooted in food access, dignity, culture and collective action.
As thousands of Illinois families face threats to food assistance, we’re coming together to connect neighbors to resources, build community, and organize for a future where no one is left hungry.
Featuring live performances by @nicosegal , @ricwilsonisme , @shawnee_dez and more, free meals by @eatcedars , creative workshops by @mwc_chi , SNAP support and resource navigation, advocacy opportunities, community organizations, faith partners and more.
Englewood is one of the Chicago communities hit hardest by the new federal SNAP work requirements. Community organizers like Steven are the ones bridging that gap, connecting neighbors to resources while fighting for the systemic change that makes those resources available in the first place.

Hundreds of thousands of Illinoisans lost SNAP benefits this month due to new federal work requirements and eligibility changes, resulting in the largest drop in participation Illinois history and immediately pushing families closer to hunger. Illinois can—and must—act now.
Join the Save Our SNAP coalition on Wednesday, May 13, from 9–10:30 a.m. at the Greater Chicago Food Depository (4100 W. Ann Lurie Place) for ‘Wake Up & Speak Up for SNAP.' Together, we’ll call on our legislators to support critical bills that protect Illinois families and safeguard SNAP! RSVP with the link in bio.

This morning, a group of advocates from the Save Our SNAP Coalition participated in our third and final lobby day of the season. We connected with 55 legislative offices about ways Illinois can protect SNAP and got multiple new co-signers to our three bills.
On May 1, nearly 120,000 SNAP participants lost their benefits, making this the greatest drop in SNAP participation in Illinois history. Do you know anyone who lost benefits because of the new work requirements? Send us a message.

The New Moms Advocacy Council has been showing up, speaking out, and driving real wins for young families across Illinois—from protecting SNAP access to advancing policies that strengthen economic opportunity.
Alongside partners like Greater Chicago Food Depository, advocates pushed back against harmful federal proposals and celebrated progress, such as the Senate passage of SB2295, while supporting employment social enterprises like Bright Endeavors.
Now, we must keep the momentum going by standing up for NEST (Newborn Equity Support Transfer Program), a critical measure that would provide direct financial support to moms during pregnancy and early infancy.
Opposition is growing—and without action, this opportunity to create stable, healthy starts for nearly 50,000 Illinois families each year is at risk. Take two minutes to sign a witness slip in support of NEST and help ensure young families have the resources they need to thrive.

Join us for the Save Our SNAP Block Party: a day of community, creativity, and collective action grounded in the moral declaration that no neighbor should go hungry.
As SNAP cuts take effect this May, over 150,000 Illinois residents are at risk of losing access to food. In partnership with the Save Our SNAP Coalition and Cedars, the Food for Every Neighbor campaign is bringing together artists, community organizations, and leaders to make sure people aren’t left to navigate this alone.
The event will feature live performances by Nico Segal, Shawnee Dez, Heavy Crownz, Zion Ali, DJ Cash Era, DJ Archibald Wilkins, and more — along with creative workshops led by the Muslim Writers Collective and fresh meals provided by Cedars.
Throughout the day, guests can get support to protect your SNAP benefits, understand what’s changing and how to stay covered, and connect with real opportunities to take action — whether that’s plugging into organizing efforts, supporting advocacy work, or stepping into a role that helps move this campaign forward.

Hunger in the United States is not the result of scarcity. It is the result of policy decisions and acceptance of poverty. To end hunger for good, we need strong public policy. Now is a crucial time to raise your voice and let elected officials know that you support hunger relief programs.
