Prayer service at the central mosque. 🕌
In Foumban, the call to prayer rises over a city shaped by centuries of tradition…where a smaller Christian community thrives alongside the Muslim majority. A long tradition of tolerance in the Bamum Kingdom.
This was also the place I lost (4) of my (6) memory cards. Thankfully all had been transferred and back up the morning of 🤠

Scott VanderVoort (@scottvandervoortstudio ) is a contemporary, large-scale sculptor and multidisciplinary artist living in Brooklyn. Stone, wood or metal, he takes it and shapes it with a kind of quiet discipline that feels closer to ritual than process. 👁️ The work speaks in its own language, and it doesn’t rush to explain itself.
He’s also my neighbor. A good one. Here’s a few stills I captured of his new studio space. 💫
We don’t believe in erasing the year that passed…it shaped us, challenged us, and carried us here. From our family to yours, we wish you a new year with a bit more happiness, better health, a little extra breathing room, and at least one goal crossed off the list! Happy New Year - from the S.A.S’s :) 🎉 🥂 💫

Iraq.
500 books.
A story returning home.
I traveled to Iraq with @lensonlifeproject to document @cengizyar ’s journey back to Mosul, handing out copies of his book, This Alabaster Grave, back to its people.
This film captures that journey — a quiet act of giving back to the community that inspired it.
Special thanks to those that moved us around with ease @sangarkhaleel@makeen_mustafa and @campbellmacdiarmid
Iraq. Thought I had a clue…turns out I didn’t know a thing.
From Baghdad to the old city of Mosul, then up into Kurdistan; Erbil to Sulaymaniyah. Long roads, endless tea, faces you won’t forget. People proud of where they come from, even when history’s cut them deep.
Baghdad hit me hardest. On the news it’s all war and fear…but walk the streets and it’s something else entirely. The city’s alive and loud, the smell of spices and lamb fat around every corner. The roads, smoother than the BQE! So many stories and moments that’ll never make the headlines.
Another trip I won’t forget. Thanks to @samtpowers and Jack (@lensonlifeproject ) for bringing me along. Meeting @cengizyar and @campbellmacdiarmid was a humbling experience. Your work is important. @sangarkhaleel and @makeen_mustafa …for showing us around and opening their hearts. And to everyone who poured us tea, shared a drink, and reminded me how much life still beats in the places we think we understand…thank you.
It’s a good thing to be wrong sometimes. It reminds you the world is bigger and better than you imagined.
Surprised and grateful to see interest in my Congo photobook after the recent interview with the folks at @wideluxclub . I decided to make a small limited run—each copy cost me $63 to produce, but I’m offering them at $55. Not to make a profit, but simply to share the work and keep the good word moving.
Every dollar from sales will go directly to @lensonlifeproject , a nonprofit that teaches photography to youth in places like Goma, Iraq, Cameroon. & NYC.
Limited run. First come, first served. Link in bio.
