24 hours in Vilnius, Lithuania. The city architecture is special for its exceptionally preserved UNESCO-listed Old Town, featuring a compact blend of Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, and Neoclassical styles. It is characterized by a medieval radial street plan, red-tile roofs, pastel facades. The old rational grid city with historic buildings is cut in two parts by the river Neris and is mirrored by modern flat facades and glass skyscrapers. I went on the hunt for Brutalist relicts and found this former Palace for Concerts and Sports (1971)💜 #architecture #architektūrosfondas

Key takeaways from the Final Presentation of Atelier Delta Rijnmond–Drechtsteden 2100 🌊 🗝️ @IABR___ Atelier Delta Rijnmond–Drechtsteden 2100 presented its final results at the Timmerhuis in Rotterdam. The research-by-design project explored what a two-meter sea level rise and a warming climate mean for South Holland. Two strategic futures for the delta were central: • Open system – grow with water, use sediment as a resource, work with natural dynamics. • Closed system (Deltapolder) – one strong ring dike, controlled water levels, clear separation of sea and delta. The core message of our teams @hnslandscape @de_urbanisten and @posadmaxwan : research by design is essential to navigate uncertainty, surface real choices, and connect long-term climate adaptation to policy and public debate. Not choosing is also a choice - with consequences for future generations. The spoken-word performance by @moze.nael provided a strong conclusion to the morning. In a personal and imaginative contribution, he connected living with water, change, and responsibility to human experience. Results will be published online in a digital edition. What an amazing testament to geological time on the border of Germany and Czech Republic; Bohemian Switzerland. The area, once the Cretaceous sea, was formed by layers of sand and minerals accumulated, eventually compacting into thick sandstone. The sandstone sea-floor, was uplifted and fractured some 100+ millions of years ago, then eroded and carved by water, wind, and frost, creating deep fissures and cracks in the rock where vegetation got hold. Stunning and yes, also the area which inspired Romantic painter, Caspar David Friedrich who lived just around the corner namely in the city of Dresden.

The exhibition We/Trans/Form in the Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn explores the different manners in which architecture is becoming more sustainable. Being responsible for some 38% of the global CO2 emissions the design disciplines are manifesting different more circular material choices, working with community, enhancing biodiversity, embracing craft and experimentation. Technologies and nature oriented local solutions are key. Surprisingly a lot of Dutch firms are amongst the some 80 projects on display. Although Western oriented a strong point is the collaboration with educational institutions and students. #bonn #architecture #bundeskunsthalle

We’re excited to announce the IABR 2026: Systems of Support | Building Shared Values opening 17 Sept to 29 Nov 2026 in Rotterdam! 🎉 In a world where climate change, social tensions, and resource scarcity strain global systems, this edition highlights a growing momentum close to home: stronger communities, regional approaches, ecological balance, renewable resources, and cooperative systems that restore rather than exhaust. A powerful exploration of how design can shape rooted, fair, and regenerative economies -and how architecture can become a true public force. The edition is curated by Wouter Veldhuis (former Dutch Government Advisor, architect, urban designer and co-founder of MUST) at the invitation of the IABR. He is joined by Carola Hein (professor of the history of architecture and urban design), and Martina Muzi (curator, designer, and educator).
