About a year ago, soon after going freelance, I started working on a documentary about female frontline healthcare workers in rural India. I’ve worked on a wide variety of projects in 2025, but this film became a focal point that I kept returning to.
I directed, edited and produced it, which meant many sleepless nights thinking through the concept, the story, the logistics, the cinematography, the pacing, the editing, the sound, the trailer… all of it.
I spent days with Tara, a healthcare worker in Rajasthan, understanding how she walks through the world (literally and figuratively). I worked with an excellent team and we tried to untangle the pieces of a slightly complex narrative while staying true to Tara’s life, her work, and most importantly, her feelings.
The film came out into the world two days ago, and I still can’t believe it’s done.
It was made in collaboration with
@teamkhushibaby , a digital health non-profit working to bring community healthcare to the last mile. The film is part of the Solutions Storytelling Project Asia, a fellowship by the
@videoconsortium , supported by the
@skoll.foundation .
There are so many people to thank, but the biggest shout-out goes to
@saraskanth.tk , who filmed and graded it.
@shastriveda and
@kovalbhatia from VC helped get the film off the ground and supported it at every step. Many wonderful people from Khushi Baby helped shape it into what it is now.
@akhilharinarayanan worked on the sound mix, and Tanushree Das and Sky Dylan-Robbins shared their valuable feedback throughout.
And then there are my friends and family who helped me get through the process and the anxiety that came with it:
@sagar.mandhani @nikitadesh @loudelbello @ankitkumarlal @amannoug @cathedavison and my mom - thank you for calming me down when I most needed it.
And of course, the biggest thanks goes to Tara Damor, who is not on Instagram, but who trusted me with her story and let me into her life.
Sharing a few stills and moments from the film here.
The link to the film is in my bio.
P.S. Ready to take on more big projects now - reach out if you’d like to collaborate :)
