Beyond obsessed with IAMA’s “hotel play” collaboration & team of artists. “The Infinite Swell” performed
@casalomabeachhotel on Oct. 19 was exactly that — a swell of human connection, love, joy & healing. I hope sharing my enthusiasm will encourage folks to check out an
@iamatheatre play & to check in to a
@marc_and_rose hotel. The hospitality, passion, generosity & overall high-quality vibes in everything
@johnny_grossman &
@ginnacaye do is unparalleled. I never ever (EVER) thought I would experience some of my favorite moments as an actor in this way... it feels like a portal opens — within it is a treasure trove for everyone to retrieve a part of themselves — artists & audience alike — then it closes. Until the next one. And we are left to sort out what has been revealed or awakened. Infinitely grateful to
@christiandurso @eligonda @caragreene37 @ariellehightower @elenafloresdesign , the IAMA intensive volunteers & my fellow cast-mates (in luv w youzz) for this heart-so-full-it-hurts experience.
Thinking about the summer of 2002. I’m 20 & had somehow convinced my parents to let me study “street theater” in Amsterdam w NYU’s Experimental Theater Wing. My friend
@christiandurso is there. I watch him write, create & perform in a way that feels so intentionally full of his huge heart, his dreamy romanticism, his sizzling lyricism & vibrant zest for life. That fall, we went on to study at RADA together & I saw his love for the poetry & text of Shakespeare in full bloom. Now, 22 years later, Durso is catching the wave of his full essence in a way that honestly blows my mind. To get to act in his plays feels circular & deeply meaningful. It is the infinite swell. It is, as he wrote so beautifully:
At first a journey presents itself
As an illusion of a straight line.
Start and end.
Begin and return.
Born and die.
But in practice...
It’s a circumambulation.
An undulation into faith and doubt.
A deepening into complexity
Of the meaning of lost
And the meaning of found.
Again and again.
