I’m one of many for whom David Lynch was a personal hero. On July 4, 2008, his email was an invitation to the freedom of inner quiet calm stillness and a gift that fundamentally changed my life. The @davidlynchfoundation has helped more than 600,00 children and adults around the world learn TM, with focused efforts on underserved inner-city students; veterans with PTS and their families; healthcare workers; and women and children who are survivors of violence and abuse. His higher-purpose to share a universal tool to heal stress and trauma is just as legendary, visionary and original as his art making.⁣ ⁣ David attended a small screening of the first short film I produced, that my dear friend @zacharysluser directed. The screening was at the Eagles Ballroom in Fairfield, Iowa in December 2007. We were 25/26 years old. He showed up, sat in a folding chair in the 3rd row, and had a response to the film during the Q&A that dropped my jaw to the floor and erupted the room with laughter. This moment, combined with my friendship with Zac and learning TM the following summer, is a cherished full circle in my life and one of my favorite stories to share. I’m talking a dream I had at 12 years old coming to fruition 14 years later in a far better way than I could have ever imagined.⁣ ⁣ I love how David made the ordinary extraordinary. A cup of coffee. A slice of pie. A weather report. He was Los Angeles embodied, an honorary mayor. Yet he also felt small town, to me. He shot a scene of The Straight Story in my Iowa hometown (pop. 3500) and Alvin’s lawn mower sat on display for a month in the shop window of our permanently closed video rental store. For a town with 5 traffic lights, it was a big deal. He gave us black sheep wierdos the permission to stay weird and to make art, not sense.⁣ ⁣ My broken heart broke harder yesterday when I saw the news of his departure. The worst week, worse. And yet, the beauty all around has been just as intense… as the smoke clears and the long road of healing begins, I can hear David’s voice telling LA we will “enjoy once again beautiful blue skies and golden sunshine all along the way.” JAI GURU DEV DAVID… and thank you forever 🍩

⁣Beyond obsessed with IAMA’s “hotel play” collaboration & team of artists. “The Infinite Swell” performed @casalomabeachhotel on Oct. 19 was exactly that — a swell of human connection, love, joy & healing. I hope sharing my enthusiasm will encourage folks to check out an @iamatheatre play & to check in to a @marc_and_rose hotel. The hospitality, passion, generosity & overall high-quality vibes in everything @johnny_grossman & @ginnacaye do is unparalleled. I never ever (EVER) thought I would experience some of my favorite moments as an actor in this way... it feels like a portal opens — within it is a treasure trove for everyone to retrieve a part of themselves — artists & audience alike — then it closes. Until the next one. And we are left to sort out what has been revealed or awakened.⁣⁣ Infinitely grateful to @christiandurso @eligonda @caragreene37 @ariellehightower @elenafloresdesign , the IAMA intensive volunteers & my fellow cast-mates (in luv w youzz) for this heart-so-full-it-hurts experience. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ Thinking about the summer of 2002. I’m 20 & had somehow convinced my parents to let me study “street theater” in Amsterdam w NYU’s Experimental Theater Wing. My friend @christiandurso is there. I watch him write, create & perform in a way that feels so intentionally full of his huge heart, his dreamy romanticism, his sizzling lyricism & vibrant zest for life. That fall, we went on to study at RADA together & I saw his love for the poetry & text of Shakespeare in full bloom. Now, 22 years later, Durso is catching the wave of his full essence in a way that honestly blows my mind. To get to act in his plays feels circular & deeply meaningful. It is the infinite swell. It is, as he wrote so beautifully:⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣ At first a journey presents itself⁣⁣⁣⁣ As an illusion of a straight line.⁣⁣⁣⁣ Start and end.⁣⁣⁣⁣ Begin and return.⁣⁣⁣⁣ Born and die.⁣⁣⁣⁣ But in practice... ⁣⁣⁣⁣ It’s a circumambulation.⁣⁣⁣⁣ An undulation into faith and doubt.⁣⁣⁣⁣ A deepening into complexity⁣⁣⁣⁣ Of the meaning of lost⁣⁣⁣⁣ And the meaning of found.⁣⁣⁣⁣ Again and again.⁣⁣⁣ 🌀💙🌀
