I cannot express the admiration I have for Sebastian and the love he lent to this film as our DP. When I learned he was interested in being a part of telling this story, I was beyond thrilled. For the past few months, I’ve had the pleasure and absolute privilege of directing a documentary for East Austin Stories. I could go on and on about the ways this film has changed me as a student, filmmaker, and inhabitant of Austin. But as thankful as I am, it feels like a disservice to the beautiful subjects of the piece.
In all honesty, I’ve never been so moved by a group of people and all the fruits of their labor! Standing at the bottom of the mountain, I already felt so overcome with awe. But, having climbed to the top to capture their likeness has left me changed forever. I can only hope that this film will resonate with you all as much as the journey did for me.
“Greater Than,” details the legacy of Lee Dawson Jr. and his family as they continue to uphold community sports access for young East Austinites. I’d love to invite you all to learn more about them at the East Austin Stories screening, happening on May 1st at Kenny Dorham’s Backyard, 1106 E 11th St!

“Searching” is the only interlude on refresh, inspired by my dearest Elliott Smith and Claire Cottrill. It was also my first time writing for and on guitar with baby Aneken @mybadreligion ! This one holds a special place in my little heart and I hope it breaks its way into yours. I think it’s so beautiful how your thoughts, emotions, and daily cognitive processes evolve. I wanna kiss the sapitur who wrote this song last summer and tell him to get up off the floor already!

A couple years back, I took on the alias of “4starluvr,” on a couple of my frequented internet hotspots. Since then, he’s found himself at the front-wheel of my being a couple times. While I was sharing my soul with him, I often found myself loathing his mere existence. But I hope this finale serves as a reminder to both of us that we’ll be okay in each other’s arms 4ever.
