I first met the incredibly talented Dar Gai at IFFK 2017 where she was showcasing her film Teen aur Aadha. Since then, I have admired her unique vision and her compassionate, collaborative approach to the creative process. Very grateful that I finally got to work with Dar and her wonderful team for this fun ad for Bumble 🐝

I’ve recently been thinking a lot about romantic relationships — the fantasies we’ve been sold, the realities we contend with, and the in-betweens we live in.
I wasn’t raised to believe that marriage is inevitable, something I’m grateful to my parents for. Over the years, I’ve realised that my idea of a good life is not inextricably tied to being partnered.
Some days, I feel like I have it pretty much figured out — that my life is going to be centred around friendship, particularly female friendship. And then, out of nowhere, come days when I wish the happily-ever-after scenario would magically come to pass.
And then I realise I don’t have it all figured out, that I’m still making things up as I go along, and that I still have much to unpack and unlearn.
What’s the point of this post?
Nothing. Just musing out loud.
Birthday Post 3: It’s the last one, I promise 🤓
Since my pirannal (star sign birthday) fell exactly 7 days after my birth date, I decided to go all out this time and make up for all the birthdays I let slip by unmarked. So I declared it my Birthday + Pirannal Week, and spent it doing some of my favourite things and catching up with friends who feel like home 😊 Swipe through for some vulnerable ADHD talk, and highlights from a week that filled my cup ❤️

Birthday Post 2: For most of my life, I’ve been pretty low key when it comes to my birthday… But this year I decided to go all out and celebrate the fact that I am still here stumbling around, figuring things out and learning to be(e). So I hope you will indulge me as I continue documenting one of the loveliest birthdays I have had thanks to some very special souls ❤️
Thank you, everyone who called, messaged, and wished me a good year ahead — I am super grateful ❤️
Love,
🐝

Birthday Post 1: The past year was a true rollercoaster, speckled with joyful highs and crushing lows in equal measure, and I wanted to ring in my birthday in a way that honoured the year I was saying goodbye to while welcoming the year ahead. So I spent the day channelling the two opposing forces that shape our lives: creation and destruction. First, I attended a pottery class and made some things, and then I headed to a rage room and smashed some things.
At the pottery workshop, I got to do something I really love — being a beginner again. I played, figured out how the clay responds to pressure, made mistakes without fear, and was hypnotised by the swirling patterns and shapes that formed as the wheel turned… While my hands and clothes got messy, my brain grew quiet. I had a big grin by the time I left.
At the rage room, we got booted and suited, picked our weapons of choice, played girl power anthems, and for the first time in my life, I shattered things on purpose. It was liberating to let loose and be a force of destruction. Finding safe ways to express rage ought to be a regular self-care ritual. Smash objects, smash the patriarchy! 💥
Two contrasting activities, both for the first time, both fun, both good for my soul. A little personal reminder so I learn to accept, and maybe even appreciate the yin and yang of life as I grow older.
Thank you, Nits, for being the most enthusiastic partner in crime ❤️🫂
