¡Cuba si, bloqueo no! Call/write your representatives now and demand that we end the 64 year U.S. blockade and all military threats against Cuba! The Cuban people are suffering so much more now than in my prior visits in 1999 and 2016 due to Trumps cruel tightened sanctions. Cuba had the lowest infant mortality rate in the world (lower than the U.S.) prior to 2018. Due to the increased sanctions causing severe medical shortages, Cuba’s child mortality rate has risen 148%. The blockade threatening any country with sanctions who brings oil to Cuba is simply evil. Lack of fuel is causing deaths. European tourism, which brought substantial revenue into Cuba is way down because of our government’s bully policy - if Europeans have visited Cuba since 2021 they are denied the Esta Visa program to visit the U.S. and have to go through a long, complicated process to get a visa. The designation of Cuba as a “state sponsor of terrorism” should be immediately removed. Cuba has never threatened the U.S. or any other country. They send doctors to help. Instead of pointing a finger at other countries accusing them of propaganda, turn it back onto ourselves. The U.S. has the biggest propaganda machine in the world. Hands Off Cuba!

What the US government has been doing to Cuba for 64 years is criminal. Some people speak of government propaganda in Cuba. The 1962 trade embargo imposed on Cuba by the US was the biggest piece of cold war propaganda put forth by OUR government to the American people. They needed to destabilize Fidel Castro’s communist government and weaken its influence in the Western Hemisphere because “the tiny island is a threat to US National Security.” Really? Study the history. IT’S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY. The US was angry about the post Revolution Nationalization of US Assets including sugar mills, oil refineries (Texaco, Esso, Shell) utility companies, banks, mining operations and hotels. The US has been on a revenge mission ever since, especially after the embarrassment of the failed takeover at The Bay of Pigs in 1961. Note: The US succeeded in ousting the democratically elected president of Guatemala, Jacobo Arbenz, for trying to expropriate the US mega company United Fruit Companies lands and return them to the people. CIA got him out and a military dictator in. Since 1964 the US has officially pressured nearly ALL members of the OAS - almost every country in the Western Hemisphere to cut ties with Cuba and has targeted foreign companies and subsidiaries worldwide.
In 2023, 187 members out of 193 in the UN voted to condemn the embargo on Cuba.
What the Trump government is doing now by ordering the strict blockade on oil shipments to Cuba is evil. The beautiful people in Cuba are suffering with blackouts, food and medical shortages.
The right will try to blame the mismanagement by the Cuban government for these problems, but read, read the history. The US Embargo and our severe “bully on the playground” pressure on other countries to side with us, has severely restricted Cuba’s ability to trade causing monumental financial losses and limited access to not just fuel, food and medicine, but international financing. Just watched the HBO documentary, Mel Brooks: The 99 Year Old Man. (this was a character he did for years and he also turned 99 this year.) One of my favorite and craziest show biz jobs was working on the Mel Brook’s film, History of The World, Part 1. I played a synchronize swimming nun in the Spanish Inquisition vignette alongside Mel as Torquemada. Crazy!!! This first b&w photo was a still pic from the doc. I’m on the menorah 3rd from left.
Mel received quite a bit of criticism for this scene (not his first time) from critics and theater-goers alike who called it kapo humor. His response, “They thought the Inquisition was not the subject matter for comedy. And I maintain seriously that there is nothing that is not the subject matter for comedy because comedy is a sensational and sometimes spectacular political weapon.”
I loved working with Mel Brooks. What a brilliant man! Happy 99th birthday!
