Just a little post to say hi 👋😋🌞 I’m Sam, a Bristol-based paper artist and illustrator. I’ve been working with paper for around 16 years, and I still feel the same joy in the studio now as I did when I first started - cutting, folding, building, and seeing ideas slowly turn into something playful and tactile is just magic! ✨✏️✂️ I think my love of paper started when I was a kid making cardboard dens, decorating the outside of them and installing doors and windows 😄. I’ve always loved that feeling of free play! The freedom to be curious and build something from nothing - see where your imagination takes you and all that! Today I make handcrafted paper sculptures and illustrations for things like environmental and public awareness campaigns, installations, set design, event + travel advertising, and brand collaborations. I’m especially drawn to projects that care about people and planet 🌍 Alongside my commercial work, I also run nature-based workshops that bring people together to play, make, and reconnect with creativity. University talk & workshop ✏️🎓✂️💚 Loved visiting the Year 3 illustration students at Birmingham City Uni. I shared a talk on my practice in the morning, followed by an afternoon workshop. In the workshop, each group was tasked with designing and creating a paper-cut set to showcase a particular flavoured lipbalm. Huge thanks to @nirvananatural for the beautiful vegan, plastic-free refillable lip balms! So impressed by the work produced - a seriously talented group of emerging creatives. Designed for locals, the series brings together independent venues, makers and creatives to offer behind-the-scenes access, guided tours, workshops and food experiences across the city. Highlights include y hidden vault exploration and bat detecting at the Clifton Suspension Bridge, street food tours at Wapping Wharf, and creative workshops ranging from urban photography to drawing and craft sessions.
