In Soil & Spirits, Samaquias Lorta transforms dirt, gravel, and sand into sonic filters and instruments, layering them with cello, electromagnetic hums, and noise. At the center lies a single act: planting Hypericum perforatum, a medicinal plant known for its resilience and healing. Each grain of soil becomes a resonator, transmitting memory of decomposition into renewal. The composition unfolds like a ritual: burial becomes transmission, decay becomes transformation, silence gives way to rooted sound. The textures shimmer with tension between fragility and persistence, reminding us that biodiversity emerges not only in lush growth but also in the recycling of death and matter. The piece listens to soil as a living archive, where human and plant, earth and spirit, are layered together. Growth here is not ornamental but radical.
