FLOODLINES, the new novel from Saleem Haddad (@salhad ), is this week's Book of the Week. A "sophisticated exploration of inheritance, identity, and the politics of intimacy," FLOODLINES is a sweeping, multi-generational novel that traces the fractured bonds between three sisters. Spanning continents and decades, FLOODLINES grapples with legacy, memory, and family secrets, and charts the emotional and political aftershocks of the US-led invasion of Iraq. Inspired by Haddad’s family history, FLOODLINES is a contemporary Iraqi epic that explores family, queerness, and the disruptive legacies of (neo)colonialism in haunting, visceral prose. FLOODLINES is out now worldwide from @europaeditions @europaeditionsuk .

The day is finally here — Floodlines is out today, published by the amazing @europaeditionsuk This book has lived in my head and my body for a long time. It’s a family novel about three sisters, a missing collection of art, and the way memory, exile, and inheritance shape who we become. It is also a story about queer love, and the politics of intimacy. It’s about what we remember, what we choose to forget, and what refuses to let us go. I’ll be doing events around the UK — details are up — and I’d love to see some of you in person. Thank you to everyone who’s supported this book already. I feel all this love and support and cherish it so deeply. And if you’re about to start reading… I hope Floodlines finds you at the right moment.

How do different forms of writing explore ideas that come from our personal and political histories? In Episode 16 of the PalFest podcast, Tareq Baconi and Saleem Haddad discuss their new books – Haddad’s novel Floodlines and Baconi’s memoir Fire in Every Direction – with their questions of family, exile, return, and the possibilities of art. This conversation was recorded at a live event in London on February 11, 2026.

Join Saleem Haddad (@salhad ), TMR Fiction Editor, and special guests on Wednesday, May 20th, 1pm EDT/ 6pm UK/ 7pm CET for a deep-dive roundtable as we pull back the curtain on our latest issue. Grab a seat at our virtual table for an evening of craft talk, personal revelations, and a first look at the heartbeat of this new issue. How do we reconcile these different visions of the same sea? What does it mean for the Mediterranean to be both a site of longing and a site of rupture, both a space of possibility and a space of constraint? These are some of the questions that our contributors grapple with in the essays, fiction, art, and reflections that make up TMR’s newest issue, MEDITERRANEANS. This online event is free but advance registration is required. 🗓️ Wednesday, May 20th, 1pm EDT/ 6pm UK/ 7pm CET 🔗 Sign up now, link in bio. #TMR59 #Mediterraneans #TheMarkazReview #Roundtable #SWANALiterature #LiteraryEvent #DiasporaWriting #PublishingEvent #AuthorTalk
