a week from today! next wednesday my students from my class “Dragging Performance” at @saicperformance will present a showcase of their final performance projects titled MELTING SKIN(S) down at @coprosperitychicago 🖤
i don’t have the best documentation of our time in class expect for a few clips here and there but it’s mostly because of how present I’m drawn to be with them in class
i’m so proud of this group of 11 and the immense amount of vulnerability they’ve cultivated for themselves and each other ~ i’m inspired by their drive to play with gender as material and by the way i see them using art making as a means to explore all the possibilities of who they can and want to become. this one truly hits close to home.
MELTING SKIN(S)
Wednesday, May 6
Doors @ 6PM / Show @ 7PM (2 sets w/ an intermission)
free and open to the public
all ages welcome (although there will be some nudity involved)
ty to my wonderful TA @yuguanqiao for a wonderful semester and to the @coprosperitychicago team for graciously hosting and making room for this showcase once again ~ flyer made collectively by the students 🖤
hope to see you there 💋 support young queer art! @saicpics@see_saic
! THIS! SIGN UP! VIRAL. Taught by @vanessadamilolamacaulay VIRAL interrogates the unstable, hyper-mediated terrain of contemporary performance in the age of digital networks. This three-week lab asks: How do identity, presence, and agency mutate when performance circulates online, when bodies are cloned, mirrored, or anonymised? How do memes, catfishing, comment sections, and livestreams become tools, scores, and performance systems? Through embodied experimentation, live media mixing, and critical reflection, students will probe virality as an aesthetic, political, and ethical practice.
Students will encounter a wide range of material from playtexts such as Jasmine Lee-Jones¿ seven methods of killing kylie jenner (2019) & Caryl Churchill¿s Love and information (2012). As well as artists work including Jacolby Satterwhite, Wu Tsang and Amalia Ulman. These works will be contextualised through texts such as Liveness and mediatization ( Phillip Auslander) and Memes in Digital Culture (Limon Shifman
