Today’s artists from the Art & Technology / Sound Practices departments show us the malleability of robotics as an art practice. For some artists, robotics provide an amusing format for engaging topics of play, childhood, and sport–bringing us back to the days of paper airplanes, science class experiments, and swingsets. Others work takes on a more somber tone, problematizing histories of British colonialism, homophobia, and trauma by combining Sanskrit and Bengali text with kinetic robotics. Stop by the gallery to see these artists' diverse range of concepts explored through the dynamic field of robotics.

In work from artists in the Designed Objects program, the tensions of everyday life are designed and materialized within the galleries at SAIC. From the push and pull of bus handles, the stretch of fabric, the resistance of a switch, the stacking of objects, and the relationship between you and your smart home, the patterns of strain and slack within the quotidienne are visualized. Each work reveals the stretch of the fabrics and vehicles that we engage with everyday, revealing the meaningful aspects of the objects that are often overlooked.

From digital designs to fully rendered models, artists within the AIADO program look to explore the future. They look at current realities and develop ideas to expand upward and outward. As they address the issues of the contemporary, they must engage with climate, structural limitations, cultural influences, and more. In this collection of work, you’ll see artists working in both natural and built environments, within these environments and the communities surrounding them, they imagine a new future.

Crafting minute ceramics, the talented artists in today’s curated post inspire us to look for the finer (tinier) things in life. Though these individual works are small, in surplus they form new pictures and meaning. The medium of ceramics allows us as viewers to imagine the artist's hand—be it shaping small cups or forming abstracted flowers—and the laborious attention to detail it takes to create such miniatures.
