𝘎𝘐𝘎𝘐 𝘔𝘈𝘚𝘐𝘕: @gigi_masin spent decades as one of ambient music’s great nearly-lost figures, the kind of artist people discovered through blurry cassette dubs, late-night radio and obsessive recommendations from friends who swore this one obscure Italian record might change your life. Born in Venice and shaped by Italy’s experimental music underground and free-radio culture in the late 1970s and early ’80s, Masin developed a sound that pulled from jazz, Mediterranean melody and early electronic experimentation without fully belonging to any of them. His 1986 debut, Wind, moved through the world slowly, carrying an emotional warmth and openness that separated it from ambient music’s colder corners. Over time, musicians and listeners caught up, with artists ranging from Oneohtrix Point Never to Caroline Polachek embracing Masin’s deeply personal approach to ambient composition. Movement, his first solo full-length since 2020’s Calypso, pushes that feeling further. Coming out via @SacredBones on May 29, Masin expands on the rhythmic pull of recent releases like Vahiné and Red Hair Girl At Lighthouse Beach (with Rod Modell). The album folds melancholy synth lines, submerged grooves, and soft-focus ambient textures into something fluid and deeply alive.
