The making of Saturday Born has been a transformative experience.
I’ve learned so much, been inspired by the amazing talents of others, by the collaborative process—and by myself, for pushing through to the end.
On this journey, I collaborated with some truly phenomenal people.
My highly skilled and incredible production ladies in Ghana
@onlychristine__ @ekua_sassy and Molly Egan and my actors
@saintludo ,
@fran_isherwood @brianangels1 and
@edwardkufuor who brought Ama’s world to life so fully. The crew in Ghana and London, thank you!
@oxaliciaxo was the backbone. She worked tirelessly, looked after & protected me, and brought all her wisdom, strength and skill to a project that was wildly ambitious & at times even dangerous.
I watched as
@kitt_sullivan brought the most beautifully designed shots to my little monitor, done with skill and humour—all while being kept awake all night by the world’s most horrifying dog. To
@vlad_jako for his drone shots!
The incredibly talented
@i_am_mattsh0 as he turned a series of shots into an actual film. What I thought was mediocre became beautiful in his hands, thanks to his collaboration and skill.
@devika_bilimoria used her intuition and artistry to help me finish the film. There’s nothing quite like it, the relief of seeing the final pieces fall into place.
Composition may now be one of my favourite parts of post.
@jamalgreenmusic and
@tommyjrea helped bring each scene to life. The marriage of picture and sound really does complete a film.
David Bharrat and the team at
@luckycatpostproduction did an immense job with colour and sound design.
Huge thanks to my mum for digitising the archival footage that became so key to the storytelling. To my dad for inspiring the story and Jewel Arthur for saving our Art Direction in Ghana!
To
@alexanderjamieson for consulting on a million script drafts—and regularly talking me off the edge.
And to
@andymsee for lending his talented eye to the early edits. Your advice was a masterclass.
Finally
@lclocations_ for championing our film!!
And to everyone who came to the first-ever showing of Saturday Born—I know who you are, I see you. I’ll never forget your love and support.
