I am so thrilled to finally share a sneak peak of the “shape of Absence” !!
This project is incredibly special and dear to me.
The idea of this documentary started with a conversation
@ryoga.baba and I had last January. We were both so moved by the sense of loss of sacred spaces, and the questions we felt regarding sense of identity connected to language, rituals and land.
In a world that constantly seeks progression and efficacy, ancient traditions and festivities may feel inconsequential for many. Slowly they are being forgotten and abandoned… but what happens to our soul and sense of self when we no longer have spaces that create community, bond and give us places to ask the most intimidating questions about the experience of being alive? What happens when we stop conceiving the human experience outside of productivity, comfort and “success”?
Riddled by these thoughts, Baba and I teamed up to conversate and listen to the testimony of some of the guardians of a series of rituals that are on the verge of extinction and conceived this film.
Babarulis, thank you infinitely for wanting to take this crazy adventure with me, for all those hours of jamming in the car while trapped in the Tokyo’s rush hour, for believing that we could make it happen and that the story, no matter what, mattered.
And thank you
