Toronto! I’m headlining @yukyukstoronto for the second time ever this weekend. Come check out a show! It’s my last weekend running my special and I feel so confident about my hour. Headlining @yukyukstoronto was always a dream of mine. And even as life beats us down it’s important to remember how far we have come.
The first time I came to Toronto was almost a decade ago. I was a fast and loose drunk working day labour jobs. I was coming to town for a show at the winter Elgin & Wintergarden theatres for @siriusxmcanada Canada’s Top Comic competition. 9 days before the competition someone stole my bag with my wallet out of a Sea Can. I had no ID and service Canada was very unclear if a passport could be rush ordered for a domestic flight. The prize for the contest was $25,000, A TV taping (I hadn’t done one yet) shows at JFL Vancouver, JFL Toronto, Just For Laughs, and a TRIP to JFL Sydney to preform on the other side of the globe.
I wouldn’t turn it down so long story short I took an 86 hour Greyhound bus ride across Canada. I got off the bus and immediately went to my first Blue Jays game in a mental haze. From thinking I was going to be attacked by my seat mate outside of Kenora, seeing my first Amish person and then the Skydome. I did not win the competition. In my defence the lineup was STACKED @kylebrownrigg@brittanythecomedian@mralexpavone@sophbuds@nickreynoldson were all on the bill. I forget who won but I am sure they have a great career to this day.
