Drawings from 2025, spring. It will be a good day to paint! Maybe. Spring is a weird zone before the heat begins. Like that last hour sleeping before you have to get up to go to work. Maybe just have one more dream before the coffee
10 more drawrings from last spring. I’m listening to Lauren green’s magical ep from what seems like a decade ago at least, where the Austin I miss is encoded in that facet. Also today Juan Cisneros. Happy Saturday! These drawings are from the spring of 2025
New from studio: oil stick variations made with r&f! Extremely non archival works on Bristol paper—it’s not them, it’s me that has done the bad job of non collectible works. Layered on top of my notebook of color swatches for the paintings that I will -really- release into the world one day. Could be fun in the interim tho. Made at Spellerberg project’s institute of advanced learning and research
Me and Kel’s “secret” show at Bolm last year (we really just didn’t want to paint the walls). I thought it turned out pretty nice! Steef joined later and it looked even better but couldn’t get a photo in time. @kelvy___
Horizontal full sheets from this set started in 2015 and finished off in 2024! All works 22” x 30”, gouache on Rives BFK paper.
.
Titles: Top Dawg, Bolm Happens, Maybe We’ll Quiver Later, Butter & Guacamole On The Popcorn, Not Theory, So What?, Be All That You Need To Be, Engineered Public Discourse, User Experience, If You See Something Say Something To Your Painting, Tight Eyebrows Though
Here are some new works built on top of drawings I made in 2015. I guess the idea back then was to warm up in the studio setting down some quick ideas that might even play out as spontaneous finished work. That didn’t pan out and I shelved the project. As I began to move my studio from Austin to Lockhart in December I disinterred these old things and started working again, thinking well you know, I’ll just dabble a bit to have something to do during the transition. 7 months later and they are much more developed.

Items here are the verticals of the set of 18 works. All works full-sheet 22”x30” Rives BFK with gouache, 2015–2024. Two of these are currently on display in the @spellerbergprj gallery for the first studio show of the summer.
.
Titles: Taste The Paste, Word Association Football, Get To The Point, Last Moments Of My 30s, Free Hugs, Triple Double Flip, Teen Cave

There will be a watercolor jam session in the gallery on Saturday led by Jules from 2–4pm; if you feel like painting in the beautiful hill country with a master this is for you :)

I love this combo of artists! We all seem to love wacky shapes and color with a deep appreciation for structure, texture, and nuance.

I took some snapshots at the opening so didn’t get everything unfortunately. My piece “Brian Eno’s New Album Music For Midfielders” is a large tiling of watercolors I made at the SIM residency in Reykjavik in the spring of 2017. It was the second piece I made there, and I finished the last tiles at Bolm that spring. It was never shown or hung and stayed in a drawer ever since. Jules remixed it for the wall and brought it to life for the first time. It was so nice to see all that color glowing on a large scale <3
