Cleaned the studio for the first time in awhile. Going to be missing it while I’m traveling the next few weeks! Looking forward to spending some time in Chicago and Denver! . . . . #studio #photography #foto #fotografia #artist #artistsupport #landscape #supportlivingartists #studioday #hinterland #montana #portrait #subjectivelyobjective #collectart #artcollector #largeformatphotography #4x5 #studiophotography

Last month I got to spend some time working on the first leg of a new project, one that I’ll be excited to share in the coming year. But, best of all I got to spend some time with my partner @jess_the_photographer who made this beautiful portrait of me working. I don’t have many photographs of myself working, but this is definitely a favorite! . . . . #portrait #photography #working #tennessee #thesouth #photo #foto #supportlivingartists #fotographie #makepictures #largeformat #contemporaryart #landscape #landscapephotography #winter #land #uniqlo #artistportrait

This year, we offered our second annual Nice Art Grant, a no-strings-attached $500 stipend to go toward selected artists’ creative practices. With over 300 applicants, it was difficult to narrow it down to only two artists, so we needed to create a shortlist to highlight a few more practices! this year’s jurors were epiphany and tim (MNA cofounders) and last year’s grant winners, emma mckay ryan and josh johnson. from our shortlist, today we're sharing work from Ryan Parker @ryanparker.studio Ryan Parker (b. 1989, Twentynine Palms, CA) is a lens based artist and documentarian based in Bozeman, MT. He was raised on military installations across the US and Japan until the age of 13. These early years became integral to the subject matter within Parkers lens based practice. His work is concerned with the altered landscape, specifically the relationship between industrial standardization and economic factors which lead to upheaval in small communities. His large format photographs document the hinterland, the space subtly forgotten. Parker has exhibited his photographs with the Holter Museum of Art (Helena), the Yellowstone Art Museum (Billings), Usage Gallery (Brooklyn), Praxis Gallery (Minneapolis), The Center for Fine Art Photography (Fort Collins), Atlanta Photography Group (Atlanta), Blue Sky Gallery (Portland), Subjectively Objective (Detroit), Ejecta Projects (Carlisle), and Filter Photo (Chicago). In addition to exhibiting his work, it has been included in publications by Light Leaked, Subjectively Objective, and Pine Island Press. In 2016 he received a Sidney E. Frank Foundation Fellowship, and in 2014 the Edwards Family Endowment for the Arts. congrats, Ryan!

Time for my quarterly print sale! Once per season I’ve been selling a limited run of an image from an ongoing project to help fund/support the work. Proceeds go to film, gas, equipment. This photograph is from a trip this past fall to Alaska where I photographed tailings outside Fairbanks. The site was a dredging operation, mining for gold. I was quite taken by the trees growing back through the tailing as we walked the site. If you’re interested in purchasing a print follow the link below! Prints are 8x10” on 300gsm paper, or 32x40” on PhotoTex. /print-editions #supportlivingartists #artistsupportpledge #photography #prints #landscape

Last week I was able to sneak a few days away to continue work on a project out in the Red Desert. It is a subtle landscape which can be unforgiving. But it is also a generally beauty place. Between sages soft desert soil, sand, rock gather. I found cairns, game trails and gully washers, markers to navigate the land. I also found uranium mines, tailings, graves. Very Different kind of markers on with which you can also learn to navigate land. More to share soon, . . . . #desert #land #landscape #photography #foto #fotografía #fotografie #makepictures #landmarks #america #sage #phototrip #supportlivingartists #contemporaryart #art

A few more images from last months trip to Alaska. I still can’t believe how far we drove and maintained eyes on this pipeline from Fairbanks to Valdez. The pipeline reaches much farther north. Soon, I will need to return and finish the whole journey. . . . . #alaska #pipeline #oil #landscape #climatechange #photography #fotografie #fotografia #foto #makepictures #industrial #phototrip #earth

A few more outtakes from the Alaska trip. This glacial lake is just off the Valdez Glacier. We found time to stop at two different glaciers this trip. This one, and Worthington glacier. Their truly breathtaking sights. But also heart breaking to think is how quickly they are melting. On a brighter note @jess_the_photographer braved the cold water to touch the ice! . . . . #winter #glacier #climatechange #landscape #landscape #ice #alaska #climatechangeisreal #photography #fotografia #fotografie #foto #makepictures #eco #supportlivingartists #supportartists

It’s been a busy past few days, but I wanted to share some images from a former dredging operation in Alaska. @obscuraworksak was kind enough to take us out to. I can’t help but love the trees growing up from the tailings. There is something quite beautiful about that. . . . . #trees #dredge #tailing #alaska #gold #mine #wilderness #landscape #land #alteredlandscape #america #photograph #fujifilm #fotografía #fotografie #foto #makepictures #earth #climatechange

I thought I should share some BTS of my trip to Alaska a few weeks back. As you can imagine this time of year was wet and boggy. But, it made for beautiful light! I got the backseat for a good bit of it, @jess_the_photographer pictured here through the window of @obscuraworksak sporty little 4x4. We covered some 1200 miles in 3 days. I’ll be sharing some of the spots we stopped to make pictures in the next few days! . . . . #fairbanks #valdez #alaska #roadtrip #phototrip #photography #fotografia #fotografie #makepictures #research #supportlivingartists #landscape #land #fujifilmx_us #subjectivelyobjective

I spent the last 3 days photographing along the pipeline from Fairbanks to Valdez. I was very fortunate @obscuraworksak hosted me and @jess_the_photographer . I managed to get to two glaciers, while tracing this pipeline to Valdez. More pictures to come soon. I love my photo community. I could never be this productive without them. Thank you all for learning me a couch or bed or camp site over the years. . . . . #fairbanks #valdez #alaska #photography #fotografie #foto #photo #makepictures #supportlivingartists #fujifilm #gfx #phototrip #contemporaryphotography #art #studio #cold #wet
