The summer I turned into a set builder, video editor, producer, director and—AND!—discovered I have naturally wavy hair. Many thanks to all the friends, fans, family and folks at home who made this summer one to remember.
The BMC10 Reunion Concert was honestly mind blowing. It was an absolute joy to get back in a room with these incredibly gifted, open-hearted performers and creatives. To get to hear and sing with this kick-ass band. To be in a theater again, to laugh with castmates in the dressing room again. To connect and re-connect with so many wonderful, kind, BANANAS EXCITED fans at the stage door. I’m utterly humbled by your enthusiasm after all these years, and so moved by the new generation of young fans who showed up— often in costume! Why did I expect anything less?!
Walking out on stage that first night, I almost burst into tears at the deafening crowd response. And then several more times, like when I saw people doing the Squip Song hand choreo along with us 🤯, or clocked the kids who couldn’t be older than middle school (aka toddlers when we did this show the first time) in head to toe BMC cosplay, or being able to look around the room and see an entire audience crying over Michael in the Bathroom, or during my castmates’ sweet and funny stories. And then I 100% did burst into tears when you all leapt to your feet after the last note of Voices In My Head. 🥹
Some of you may know that doing this show on Broadway was extremely, extremely challenging in every possible way. As deeply grateful as I am to have had that experience, it left me with a lot of very complicated, conflicting, and bittersweet feelings. This 10 year reunion celebration was more healing than I could have imagined. It has been a heart rendering reminder of how insanely lucky I am to have been and to be part of something that means so, so much to so, so many— now, again, still.
Be More Chill has been a gift that keeps on giving. If these three magical performances were the last of it, I will truly be so at peace with that for the first time maybe ever. And yet… it doesn’t feel like the last time…? I don’t know! I’m just grateful. Thank you thank you thank you @tworivertheater and @bemorechillmusical for this opportunity to don the Chloe Valentine jacket again. Awesome party, I’m so glad I came. 😄💄🐾
