Yesterday, Evan and I closed Eggâfor the next couple of weeks? indefinitely? for the foreseeable future? Itâs impossible to know even how to talk about it. We packed our staff up with all the food they could carry and as much money as we could and sent them off into the great unknownâwhere we all are now.

One thing we do know is that itâs impossible to overstate how dire the situation for service workers right now. At Egg weâve long prided ourselves on doing right by our employees, but the scope of this crisis makes it clear that even something like two weeksâ paid leave is nowhere near enough to get through. .
.
There are so many emergencies in the world right now. We need major structural changes and bold, sweeping visions to recover from this and build a more resilient and sustainable world. But RIGHT NOW we also need to help our coworkers pay their rent and buy food for their kids and keep their lights on. .
