Created for Lines / Loopholes, Maine College of Art & Design’s 2026 Faculty Triennial @icaatmeca Sincere thanks to @lvmclaughlin , @royalblueiris , @sarah_sawtelle Deeply appreciative of my community of fellow faculty, staff, and past/present students. Black Mirror, 2026 cast aluminum, dye-sublimation and inkjet prints. Documentation by @artarchival <3 and thank you @ableblues for help printing! In this work the process of casting and street photography becomes a method of introspection and a way to examine how things move and respond in relation to human interaction. Being present within our built environment is often a shifting condition, even in familiar spaces. It is shaped by many layers of values, histories, and judgments that evolve over time, reflecting culture back to us. …a dirt bike helmet becomes a rounded mirror, reflecting the cracked, seemingly celestial pavement on which it rests…

This can be found along the Longwoods Preserve Trail in Cumberland Maine. Its form was influenced by fungal growth observations such as the blewit mushroom, commonly found in local compost piles. It is an active exploration of the way things grow and change through a shared space. To create this work I cast a compost heap in steel, concrete, and cement. When inverted, the heaped form becomes an open vessel, catching forest materials and, over time, growing something new throughout the changing seasons. As part of the Biennial exhibition One Less Traveled, this work will remain on view for the next couple of years. If you make it out there please check out the other beautiful and wide-ranging works by more than 20 other artists. Geotrop, concrete cast of compost heap, waxed and painted shaped steel, 2025. Thank you @artarchival for this documentation. @chebeaguecumblandtrust

I recently returned from Georgia where I researched and documented the Joro spider (Trichonephila clavata), an invasive species first recorded in the U.S. around 2014. The Joro has continued to expand along the Eastern Seaboard, aided by warming temperatures. The female Joro spider is beautiful and quite large. Some can grow up to eight inches across. Juvenile Joros can travel great distances through a process known as “ballooning,” in which they release silk threads that catch air currents, allowing them to drift miles away to new locations. While the species poses no direct threat to humans, its ecological impact remains under study, with ongoing research led by the University of Georgia. For identification and reporting resources, visit jorowatch.com or @bugwood_uga #joro #spider
