The Fourth of July holiday is supposed to be one of the busiest times for marinas in eastern Oklahoma, but with high lake levels, these businesses are struggling. The Owner of Red Bud Marina in Oologah, Michael Fawcett, said the high water has swallowed their parking lot. Staff are improvising with makeshift walkways to get to the dock and grocery deliveries by boat just to keep the restaurant running.
"You roll with the punches,ā said Fawcett. āYou have years like this where it kills business. We are probably at about 35 percent of what we should be this time of year. And myself and other marina owners, we have three months of the year to make all of our money for the year, and it's not happening for any of us."
Despite the setbacks, he's holding out hope that the boat ramps could reopen soon. Marina staff said theyāre working with the corps to monitor lake levels and could reopen some ramps by next week if conditions improve.
