After a great contribution for New Dawn with his ensemble Hu Vibrational, the award-winning percussionist Adam Rudolph debuts his new trio with Sunrise. Counting among his previous collaborations Yusef Lateef, Don Cherry, Pharaoh Sanders, Jon Hassel, this time out with an LP featuring longtime musical associates Kaoru Watanabe (flutes, taiko, vocal, electric koto and processing) and Alexis Marcelo (acoustic piano, electric keyboards, melodica, percussion) to venture yet again in an uncharted sonic territory, blending the boundaries between ancient and modern. The Cosmic Tones Research Trio’s self-titled second album, finally in via @mississippirecords The Portland trio of Roman Norfleet, Harlan Silverman and Kennedy Verrett, following up their celebrated debut All Is Sound. Cello, saxophone, flute and piano get woven into something deeply meditative and ceremonial. Spiritual jazz in the 70s tradition, rooted in healing music, with the spirit of Alice Coltrane and the gospel and blues running quietly through it all. Super excited to welcome Blu & Exile to the store! Come join us before the live show at Bitterzoet. Been a huge fan ever since ‘Below The Heavens’ dropped in ‘07. From ‘Give Me Flowers’ to ‘Miles’ their music has been in rotation for years and many of those records went straight into the collection back then. What makes this extra special is how connected their music feels to a certain era at Rush Hour, the Beat Dimensions era. Around the time I joined RH, we were deeply into that whole LA beat scene and put out the Beat Dimensions compilations on @rushhourmusic with contributions by Flying Lotus, Ras G, Samiyam and Exile himself, amongst others, compiled by @cinnaman & Jay Scarlett. That sound and energy really shaped a period for the shop and for me personally too. Still here I am at RH, connecting the dots between hiphop and beyond in Amsterdam. Blu is a great MC. The fully @evidence produced ‘Los Angeles’ album and the deeply touching Lost Angel 45 on @biggerpicturerecordings are personal fav’s. And Exile’s production… soulful samples, insane chops and drums that hit different. I still remember buying Dirty Science on vinyl when it dropped back in ‘06.
