Next in the MAMI Independent April line-up is short film ‘Moti’, screening on Wednesday, 15th April 2026 at PVR Lido, Juhu at 7pm!
One night in Kolkata, at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, little Rohil and his parents are stunned to find their pet dog Moti suddenly transformed into a boy. With the lockdown approaching, the family tries to adjust to a truly new sense of normality.
This debut short film asserts an absurdist tale to symbolise an absurdist era, revelling in the ridiculousness that follows a life-changing circumstance. Possessing the mannerisms of a dog while inhabiting a boy’s body, Moti sets out on a journey of self-discovery to search for answers for his impossible evolution.
The film was part of the official selection of the 23rd Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA) and was nominated for the Critics' Choice Awards India.
Yash Saraf is a Kolkata-based filmmaker. A graduate of Stanford University and the AFI Conservatory, he worked as an assistant writer for Karan Tejpal and Anand Gandhi.
The film will be introduced by the filmmaker and key collaborators.
Entry is free, and managed via queue on a first-come, first-served basis.
