🦋The Butterfly Run was a huge success!
☺️We had over 300 participants - from babies to elders - and many more who donated vital funds from afar. New friendships were formed. Community was created.
⭐️The event raised over $7300 for The Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization (IRCO), a refugee-founded and -led organization that has been providing vital services to the immigrant community in Portland for 50 years.
🌼 Thank you to Maria from @latinasraportland and esther from IRCO for all the support and @newcityclark of @hieronymus.tm for the beautiful 🦋artwork.
🪴Amazing work from the Volunteer Gaggle and @runnerstakeaction - from idea to execution in ~ a month on a budget of zero.
🦋The butterfly is a symbol of immigrant rights and dignity. May we continue to show up for, honor, and defend these integral members of our American community. 🇺🇸
i was honored to support @runnerstakeaction and @irco_updates (Immigrant & Refugee Community Organization), by creating these sacred pieces of art, to raffle off at the end of their charity 5k Butterfly Run this past weekend!
🦋
it was important to me to use the same butterfly stencils for this project that we used to mark the course for the event, in honor of all those who joined, and also for all those who may not have felt safe to join, due to our nation’s current climate.
❤️
hundreds of #portland locals showed up and showed out, to support our Immigrant and Refugee neighbors!
🤜🤛
thanks to your generosity, as of the most recent update, this event was able to raise $6,450 for @irco_updates (IRCO), to support their amazing efforts!
🙏🥳
You have a whistle, what now?
📣 A whistle is a tool to alert your neighbors about ICE activity. Learn the code so you can join ICE watch in your neighborhood.
Code 1: ICE is nearby - blow in short bursts
Code 2: Code RED / ICE is detaining someone - blow in long blasts
🕶🧢 ICE agents wear tactical vests over plain clothes and their vehicles are unmarked. They often wear masks, sunglasses, and hats.
📷 Focus on ICE agents and try to record badges, locations, vehicles, license plates, weapons, documents, and anything that can help identify agents and the people being detained.
⚠️ Be prepared. ICE agents don't want us watching their activities and may come after those who try to help. Work in groups if possible and keep a reasonable distance.
📞 Some people won't feel comfortable using a whistle, and that's okay! There are ways you can help. Call PIRC hotline if you see ICE activity (suspected or confirmed) happening. Text the hotline with information about ICE activity if the situation is not urgent. Hotline: 888-622-1510
