Whether you’ve spent winter hibernating or clocking up cold, dark miles, this issue has everything to inspire your next run. We’ve gone deep into trail running and why roadies should give it a go, tested the latest shoes and gear, and spoken to legendary and everyday runners doing extraordinary things – from 50-time Comrades finisher Louis Massyn, to Ryan Sandes’ near-win in a 400km race, to a South African who came 12th overall at the London Marathon. We’ve also tackled recovery, avoiding injury, and the mental battles of ultras, plus had an honest conversation with Stuart Mann about whistleblowing in SA running. And of course, you’ll find a full race calendar for the rest of 2025. Find RUN mag on shelves nationwide or download your copy at https://www.bikeruntri.co.za/post/the-spring-edition-of-run-mag-is-on-shelves-now Woolworths has a Spring double-edition offer – the perfect gift for a running friend. #RUNmag #running #southafrica #run

After a fun adventurous week exploring the island & the Nature Trail route, race day at @seychellestrail delivered!! 👌🏽 Conditions were very good. A drop in humidity, warm sunshine light, and very little of last year’s mudbath — it was a great day for trail running. The abundant smiles at the finish were evidence of 21km of magic, with 2–7 hours deeply immersed in the super scenic forest and coastline. This course has just the right length and technicality to give both inexperienced and elite runners a challenging route they could appreciate. The jaw-dropping protected forest is pristine. The enormous palms and tall leafy, vine-entwined trees covered with thick green moss are truly avatar-esque. Add massive black lava rocks, white sand, and turquoise ocean stretching to the horizon, and you have a trail experience that may be one of the most spectacular on the planet. Congratulations to every smiling finisher who kept moving even when the steep climbs & technical boulder sections tested you. 👏🏽🏁🇸🇨 This was a day we will never forget. Huge thanks to @runmagsa for introducing us to this incredible event, and to @visitseychelles and @bigambitionsza for making it possible for us to be there and experience the magic of the Seychelles Trail. 📷 @oakpics

🍼 Bottles, Batches, and Mahé Mountains From the UTMB to fatherhood on the islands! RunMag editor @paulingpen catches up with @daniel_claassen_ at the Takamaka Rum Distillery as he balances elite race prep with his first family holiday. Dan is here with his wife and their new addition, baby Sky, who seems to be taking the Seychelles humidity like a champ. But don’t let the relaxed “dad mode” fool you—Dan has already been out on the course twice to scout the technical terrain. The Scouting Report: • Technical & Tough: Dan admits the route is far more “rocky, wet, and slippery” than he anticipated. • Amazon Vibes: He describes the deep Mahé forests as having serious “Amazonian” energy—a major departure from the dry trails of South Africa • The Strategy: With a 22k distance on the cards tomorrow, Dan is looking to use his mental toughness to tackle the heat before the midday sun peaks. Whether he’s feeding Sky or flying up a mountain, Dan is undoubtedly a top contender for tomorrow’s podium. Keep it locked right here as we bring you all the action tomorrow! #seychelles #seeseychelles #trailrunning #seychellesnaturetrail #seychellesisland

🇸🇨 Island Heat & Technical Trails RunMag editor @paulingpen catches up with South African trail powerhouse @emdjock ahead of tomorrow’s Seychelles Nature Trail 2026. Coming off a massive 2025—including a dominant win at the Extreme Dodo Trail and a top spot at @georgemountainultratrail 100k—Em is the one to watch as the elite field takes on the rugged mountains and deep forests of Mahé. The Game Plan: • Beat the Heat: Em notes the Seychelles humidity is a step above Mauritius. Her secret? Salt tabs and electrolytes are non-negotiable to avoid the cramps • Technical Grip: With slippery rocks and steep climbs, she’s sticking with her trusted, high-grip North Face kit. • Race Mode: Despite the tropical drain, Em is ready to switch it on when the gun goes off tomorrow morning. Follow along as we bring you more interviews and highlights from the race! #seychelles #seeseychelles #seychellesisland #seychellesnaturetrail #trailrunning

🌴 Mahé, Seychelles 🌴 This weekend we’ve traded tar for trails, swapping the everyday for something a little wilder. We’re on the beautiful island of Mahé alongside a field of South Africa’s most prominent fast (and fashionable) runners gearing up for the Seychelles Nature Trail. This race isn’t just a postcard, it’s a proper adventure. Lush tropical forest. Rugged mountain ridgelines. Coastal singletrack that drops you into views you’ll struggle to put into words. Add the island hospitality and a course built to test the legs, and you’ve got one of those races that lingers long after the finish line. Paradise on one side, pain cave on the other. Stay tuned, we’ve got plenty more coming your way all weekend. 🏝️🏃‍♂️ 📸@oakpics #seychellesisland #seychellesnaturetrail #seychelles🌴 #mahe #trailruning

@rachel__entrekin JUST CHANGED RUNNING FOREVER. The 2026 @cocodona250 winner and new overall course record holder by over 2 hours! Rachel Entrekin has just made history at the Cocodona 250 — one of the toughest and most prestigious ultramarathons in the world. The race covers more than 250 miles (over 400km) across the mountains and desert of Arizona, pushing runners through multiple days without proper sleep as they battle heat, fatigue, climbing, and complete physical breakdown. Just finishing Cocodona is considered a life-changing achievement. Rachel Entrekin didn’t just finish it. She won the entire race outright. And she shattered the course record doing it. After leading for huge stretches of the race, Entrekin crossed the line in one of the greatest performances ultrarunning has ever seen. The Colorado ultra specialist didn’t just defend her women’s title — she rewrote what was thought possible over 250 miles. From the opening day she looked completely locked in, running ahead of the entire field and putting herself on pace for history. By the final stretch into Flagstaff, history was no longer a possibility — it was inevitable. This isn’t just a massive moment for trail running or even running. It’s a massive moment for women in sport. Photos by @somerrunner @zebwatsonphoto @howiesternphoto #Cocodona250 #UltraRunning #TrailRunning #hereforthewomensrace #ultrarunnersofinstagram

Reason 138. "I went to school barefoot. I used to walk 10km just to reach school." @siviwe_nkombi90 This one hit different. Siviwe isn't running away from anything — he's running back. Back to the Eastern Cape. Back to the kids who are living the life he once knew. 1,300km. 25 days. 40km in the morning, 10km at night. Supported by @plato.coffee Starting in the freezing dark of Strand this morning! Not for glory. For the children back home who deserve a different path. This is what Run for Hope looks like in its purest form — someone who remembers, choosing to do something about it. Support his journey → BackaBuddy link in Siviwe bio or on the Plato website. Follow the run → @siviwe_nkombi90 And if you're near the route? Lace up and join him. 🏃🏾‍♂️ #runforhope #WhyIRun #makeadifferenceeveryday #whywerun #SouthAfricaRunners
